If you've never been to ALDI, it's sort of a minimalist super market, where they sell a lot of the same products you'll find at a regular grocery store, but they carry very few, if any of the name brands. Make no mistake, ALDI products are generally high quality, and many (if not all) are made without preservatives, antibiotics or artificial hormones, dyes or flavors. And most of what you'll find in the store is cheaper than their name brand alternatives (some are even better tasting). What ALDI lacks in convenience, they make up for in price. Be sure to check out the home goods aisle, where depending on the week you can find anything from tools to kitchen utensils to shoes for sale at outrageously low prices. If you've never been to ALDI before, here are some recommendations to make your shopping experience great:
You should absolutely bring your own bag, as ALDI doesn't have regular paper or plastic shopping bags. In a pinch, you can buy a reusable bag at checkout, or you can grab a couple of emptyboxes as you move through the store.
ALDI makes you pay a 25 cent deposit to get a shopping cart so that you'll have an incentive to return your cart at the end of your trip. If you're going to become a regular ALDI shopper, keep a quarter in your car so that you're always prepared.
Every week, ALDI publishes a flier with the sales for this week and the sales for next week, so you can be prepared when you walk into the store.
ALDI doesn't have everything, but I still recommend stopping there before you go to a larger store. I live off of Independence Ave, so if it's open, I try to stop by the produce vendors at City Market first, then go to ALDI, and then if they didn't have something I need, I stop at the Synder's grocery store near Prospect or I will trek a couple miles east to Price Chopper.
Some ALDI stores sell wine, beer and liqueurs, but this one does not. The closest ALDI I know of that does sell those things is on Independence Ave, just east of Price Chopper, but in my experience, their food selection is generally worse.
Good luck and enjoy...
Read moreThe biggest fattest meat you ever swallowed for so cheap that didn't end in tears. I'm talking of course of the pork shoulder barbecue for two bucks a pound. This ALDI is normally busy and the staff is small but they do really well at keeping their store cleaner than your dirty house. Everything is stocked so well that sometimes I go in here just to see what stores looked like in the nineties when I was oblivious to the dredge of millennial whiners quitting their jobs because "it's too cold in the freezer". Also, they have a variety of sixteen inch pizzas for eight bucks and below. I wouldn't recommend abandoning your children here though, because the entire building sits on a single acre minus the tight lot they excuse...
Read moreI was doing doordash all day in this Aldi. One trip, I went to the bathroom first before starting the order. Next time, my daughter was with me and needed to go to the bath. The cashier told the fake police to grab the keys for the bathroom. The fake police refuse blaming manager, saying we need to purchase something first. I showed him my Doordash, saying I would start shopping while my daughter used the bathroom. Refused again. I had to return the items I got for myself and get loud for him to let us use the bathroom. Then he gets mad when I speak on how dirty the restroom is anyways and he slams the woman bathroom door on us. But in Kansas, we never have this problem. Another location on my do not pick...
