I signed up for the 4 week Saturday class and ended up walking out after an hour of the first class in sheer frustration. First of all, due to snow closures and the way their sale days fell, the June class STARTED the second Saturday rather than the first. Apparently 2 people showed up the first Saturday anyway so those of us who actually showed up to the first class as we were told to were targeted as NOT SHOWING UP TO THE FIRST CLASS. The instructor then repeatedly told us we had to move at LIGHTNING SPEED to catch up because we were way behind. There was absolutely no instruction, demonstration or even an example or explanation of what we were making, but we had to move at lightning speed to do it. There weren't enough materials for the class. There was 1 PATTERN and 2 RULERS for 5 students so we were waiting on everything and then barked at for being too slow. There also weren't enough boards to put the slabs on. Heaven forbid we didn't do everything EXACTLY as the instructor wanted us to as if we could read his mind and had been doing this for 40 years. I genuinely thought he was going to go off.
I finally just walked out. I took this class (that's open to BEGINNERS) to LEARN a fun, creative and relaxing hobby, not to be barked at by an angry old man who can't teach, has ZERO patience and clearly didn't want...
Read moreI attended a Sunday evening introduction to pottery class. The class size was small, which was excellent for our instructor, Huey Lee, to be able to give individual help in addition to his superb teaching skill. Huey Lee led us through the multiple phases of working the clay to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. This was my first time doing this. He explained and demonstrated every point very well, his skilled potter's hands actually making it look like such a smooth, almost easy process. My unskilled hands had a bit of difficulty, but overall, the class was extremely enjoyable, relaxing, and fun. I am very grateful for the time and effort given to teach the class. I am equally pleased with my finished project - a small cup, bowl, and saucer. I especially like the little swirl of the glaze in the center bottom of the bowl. One side of my saucer drooped after removing it from the wheel, but I wanted to finish it out and keep it anyway. Kind of as a mark of where I...
Read moreThe staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable and I understand that they don't get paid to be there, but something needs to change with the way things are handled. I really tried with this studio. I was an active member for about 4 months out of the 12. Reason being is I had 4 out of 7 pieces I had made in my time of going ruined. Either by people loading my piece too close to another persons piece and that persons glaze getting stuck to mine (twice) or a piece getting debris stuck to the glaze due to another persons neglect of placing a breathing hole on their piece causing it to explode . Then the last piece that was suppose to have a completely white glaze came out with blue glaze mixed in due to someone mixing colors in the...
