this is long but the experience was crazy
VERY disappointed in our service here.
First let me start by saying I’ve never left a bad review of a restaurant- if I have a bad experience somewhere I usually just move on with my life, and never return. However- I’m still dumbfounded about how bad it was here! We chose this restaurant to celebrate a friends birthday on Saturday 6/27/2020! We’d heard good things and decided to give it a try! It’s very cute and has a fun vibe! First problem was my friend ordered the peach sangria. Just by appearance is was totally clear- after a few tastes it tasted SO watered down. More than your average watered down club drink. We finally convinced her to send it back. The waitress was obviously annoyed. Whatever- she got a new drink, it was fine. Then our food started coming out- my friend and myself ordered the steak. Mind you it was a $19.99 steak that didn’t even list the oz. on the menu. I ordered mine med. rare and her medium. They both came out charred and well done. It tasted like the bottom of a shoe. After a couple bites we finally decided to say something. When seeing that my med. rare steak was cooked to well done the waitress responded that “ya they can probably redo it”. I felt like I was being picky.. but I really wasn’t. So- she takes our steaks reluctantly and we wait another 30 minutes!! By this time all of our other friends have finished their food! The waitress brings out my friends steak first and says mine is still cooking. My friend starts eating and is 1/3 of the way through when mine arrives. The waitress walks up and says “sorry this one is actually the medium, she has your medium rare.” sets the plate down and leaves. So basically she switched our steaks up, and then expected us to just switch plates even though my friend had already eaten it... we were both just mind blown at this point. We decided to just call the meal a failure and get ready to leave. The manager came over and asked if there were issues and we described the problem with the steaks. She said she would have them removed- we were grateful for that. WELL- here’s where it got worse! Our waitress starts bringing us tickets at random times- MIND YOU when she took orders she never wrote ANYTHING down. When she started bringing tickets she never asked if any of us were together. We were a 10 top table, and she brought almost everyone an individual ticket- and most of those tickets had mixed up items. My husband hands her his ticket, mine, and my sister in laws with his card to pay for them all together- and she was supposed to remove an appetizer that wasn’t ours, and a drink that wasn’t ours. She came back with a slip for him to sign and she charged him $90!!!!!!! We immediately knew that was wrong. We finally went inside to correct and when he asked for clarification she said “I charged you for what you bought..”- after some back and forth and looking at the ordering screen our total was actually $54!! I have no idea how she even gathered $90? Then almost everyone else in our party had to go one by one telling her exactly what they ordered to get the correct ticket! It was insane.
In addition to all of this the waitress was very rude the whole time and annoyed that we had to correct anything. (We were very kind the whole time even when stuff was messed up and it got so awkward). She was never apologetic about anything. We didn’t get salads or appetizers until AFTER the actual entree’s. And we had to ask three different people for silver wear! We had to ask over and over for ice water! (We were on the rooftop and it was so hot!!) At one time almost everyone at our table had empty cups. No one ordered soda.
Only reason I’m giving this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the burgers everyone had were delicious! Everyone enjoyed those!
This place has great potential and hopefully our experience is a rarity. We were so overwhelmingly...

The Well
Address: 7421 Broadway St, Kansas City, MO 64114
Hours: Sunday: 10am to 2pm
Reservation Or Not: We decided to do reservation our first time as the rating for Sunday brunch were so high we thought it might be swamped. We chose to be at the restaurant at 10am, much to our surprise it was not busy at all until around noon. Then it was almost packed. So plan your Sunday brunch based on what meals you want to eat brunch for and make a reservation if you plan to arrive much past 11:30am.
Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
Pricing For Two: $$ out of $$$$
Atmosphere: I have come to the Well since I lived in Waldo 10 years ago. The Well for me a staple of Westport and has always been a strong bar that among other great things has the largest outside deck in Westport. The Sunday brunch is a newer item added to this already great bar. The bar is unlike most in the area if you plan to EAT ONLY. During Sunday brunch the Well had a very inviting and warm glow. White table clothes stung over every single table the food was served from made it feel like a nice establishment. The use of high end serving trays and warmers again makes it feel like an expensive restaurant.
Food: The food was absolute to die for. It hard to put a spin on breakfast. Anywhere you go you typically get the exact same things and they taste the exact same. Some of my favorite items are listed below. Biscuits & Gravy - The biscuits we were and fluff. The gravy while extremely chunky had an outstanding flavor. The right amount of gravy rounded out this dish perfectly. Waffle Bar - The waffles were being just as fast as the guests were taking them. Warm batter fluffed up nicely and paired well with the half dozen toppings. Omelet Bar - Dozens of toppings and sides are displayed amount them are 4 different kinds of meats. The person behind the counter can speak to any selection your heart's desire.
Staff: The staff while a little busy were very attentive to the guest's needs. The endless mimosas and bloody marys were a great touch as well. I especially like the person helping with omelets the day we went. Talking with him about growing up in Mexico and making the chorizo homemade was simply a great segway into the amazing selections he helped me make for my omelets.
Overall: Overall I believe that if you pick The Well for Sunday brunch you will have no choice, but to bring the entire family along. The food, staff, and atmosphere easily cater towards a family of any size and shape. In fact, we plan to dine in again this coming weekend and bringing the entire family along...
Read moreThe venue and atmosphere of this place is great especially the rooftop seating BUT the service has been bad all three times I have been there over the last two years. This may be just me but the feeling the wait staff gives you is that you are an annoyance to their day and you should be glad they are there to give you a drink once and hour.
My experience tonight was the icing that made me post this review. Myself and two others walked into The Well about 10:20pm and we thought they were open until midnight because that is what is on Google. There was 15-20 people at the bar down stairs and another 8-10 on the roof. So not busy but not dead either. When another in our party of three asked if there was any specials the waiter very abruptly and with an annoyed tone said "No". We ordered 2 glasses of wine and a beer. When the bartender brought the glasses of wine and the ladies took their first sip they said 'this wine is hot'. Thinking they were over reacting or that the glass may have just come out of the dishwasher I tested the wine and sure enough the temp of the glass was room temperature and the wine was warm enough to heat the glass only where it touched the glass, the rest of the glass was room temp. I would estimate in the 90+ deg range. We asked for some ice to cool the wine which the bartender provided without comment.
At about 10:30 the staff started very loudly closing the rooftop and passive aggressively pushing people out by stacking the cushions, close the roll up door to the bar and frantically arranging tables. I started noticing all the other patrons leaving as they also noticed the closing actions of the staff. At about 10:40 we finally asked if they were closing because we were the last table and the bartender said vyes we close the whole bar at 11pm.' He handed us our check and mentioned that two other bars next door were open until midnight and/or 3am if we wanted more drinks. That was the end of our time at the Well and probably my last time ever. When we walked out at about 10:45 there was still at least 15 people at the bar downstairs and no apparent motion to leave.
I understand that Google has the wrong hours sometimes or you need to close early do to low numbers. My annoyance is that the bartender down stairs didn't say 'hey just to let you know we close at 11 pm so our last call is Xpm'. Or the bartender upstairs could have said, when he took our order, 'our last call is Xpm because we are closing at 11pm' giving us the heads up we could only do one drink or that we needed to find...
