Dear Waldo Aldi's, I'm not sure what made me and my daughter look suspicious. Perhaps it's because today I have my hair wrapped in a scarf, or because I used my own reusable bag to do my shopping instead of your carts, or because we were meandering through the store, checking out your selection thoroughly since it was the first time I've been to your Wornall location in Kansas City.
Or maybe it was because I was the only Black person shopping in the store at the time, an amazing feat since you are on the southside of KC. You would think that your security guard would be better at this by now. It was pretty clear that he had no interest in the generic cereal or flour, though he pretended to look very intently at the contents while maintaining a four-foot distance between my daughter and I.
Now, I'm not one to let a few surreptitious glances from a likely underpaid employee who is most likely following the direction of YOUR management, get in between me and my pocketbook. Unfortunately, as a black woman, I'm used to it. But I did stop on my way out to let the gentleman know, "Brother, I didn't appreciate you following me and my daughter."
And now, I'm letting you know. ALDI's, I didn't appreciate you following us. This might be the reason that there were few Black folk in your store. But now, since you've been notified, I fully expect you, your management and your security team...
Read moreDesperately needs the update Aldi is supposedly giving its high volume stores. Also doesn't sell beer or wine like other MO locations.
UPDATE 9/1/18: I have changed my rating to 3 stars since the store has been remodeled, it is now fresh and new, but still has a few issues. It is now very crowded and has long checkout time for an Aldi. It is quite often out of the items that are on sale due to the store's new popularity. The layout of the store is very sub optimal with huge crowds in one aisle (produce) and hardly any in others. Finally, STILL no beer and wine. This is Missouri, where you can sell beer or wine almost anywhere, why not here? Otherwise better but still not where it could be even after the remodel.
I am changing my rating back to 2 stars on this Aldi. When I go to literally any other Aldi in the metro, I am stunned by the greater selection and the amount of items that are in stock, as well as the cleanliness of the store. Since 2020, this store is perpetually out of items, dirty, and now, high priced. In addition the other issues that this store has always had, i.e. overcrowding in the produce aisle and the fact that it doesn't sell beer or wine despite it being in Missouri,...
Read moreI love the aesthetic of the newly remodeled Aldi on Wornall, but part of the appeal of Aldi for me is the simple layout out and reduced selection. I truly don't need a gazillion choices when it comes to green beans. It helps be get in and out of the store faster. My biggest complaint of the newly remodeled Aldi is that there are similar products in multiple sections or aisles in the store. There shouldn't be different laundry detergents in different aisles. The product placement in the produce section is straight trash. All of the lettuces should be in the same area. Pizza shouldn't be on the north side and south side coolers. Same with sausages.
With wider aisles came wider carts that are prettier yet more difficult to maneuver down the aisles. I pinball those suckers up and down the store now. Thankfully I have only managed to hit shelves and carts and not any people as of yet.
I'm still Aldi's biggest fan, but whoever is putting out product at the Wornall location is sincerely trying to test my...
