I cannot stop talking about this place and telling everyone I know about it, it is truly amazing! I have been on a journey to be more conscious to reduce my waste. I moved recently from Austin, TX, where there are so many resources for greener living, and I was starting to get discouraged here in KC when I was adjusting to having fewer resources.
One thing I had been thinking about over the last few years was how much plastic we waste on personal hygiene and cleaning products. I did a lot of research to find a better way, and I came across a few blogs that talked about soap refill shops. So, I searched around for options in KC. I found Soap Refill Station in Springfield, MO, and really looked into the business. I loved the concept! I inquired to see if anyone there knew of a similar shop more local to KC, and I came to find that they were opening a Soap Refill Station location here!
First of all, Anne was so incredibly helpful the couple times I got to speak to her. I have extremely sensitive skin, and I was so thrilled to find so many products that they carried were safe for me. They opened up in the beginning stages of the covid pandemic, and let me tell you... they delivered 5 star service in the most creative ways possible to make sure everyone felt safe in the midst of a time of extreme uncertainty for so many.
Even to this day, they still offer delivery drop off on just about everything they carry. Yes! Delivery! I don’t use the delivery option as much anymore just because I am often nearby the shop, but it was such a life saver when everyone was on a stay-at-home order. I was able to get laundry detergent, household cleaners, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant (yep, and it’s AMAZING), even dryer balls and dish scrubs delivered right to my front door for only $5 as my delivery charge, which is actually a tip for the driver. In addition to delivery, you can fill yourself, order pick up, or even drop off your containers to come back to pick up later! The options are endless. You can even donate containers, so long as they’re clean upon arrival and have labels removed if possible. If you come by without a container, they have the donation bin available for a free container, as well as containers you can buy (like amber glass spray bottles).
Not only is the business model outstanding, but the products are absolutely amazing. They carry “house” brand products, as well as some well known green brands that you could find in stores like Whole Foods (like Ecos). My favorite products are the Free and Clear Laundry detergent and softener (no joke, my clothes have never smelt and looked cleaner, and feel SO soft), the All Purpose Cleaner, Free and Clear Shampoo (if your hair has the tendency to get very oily like mine, you need this shampoo), and the Mel’s Deodorant. Yep! They even have deodorant!
I cannot recommend this place enough. Excellent products, affordable price, and amazing customer service. My household loves you, Soap Refill KC!...
Read moreKansas City is beyond fortunate to have this gem. Soap Refill Station is a local zero waste solution for SOOOO many products I once struggled to find plastic-free. Anything you need to clean your body or your home, you can find here. Bring literally any bottle or container at home to buy as little or as much as you want. (This means you can sample anything before committing to a full bottle!)
Some of my favorite staples include their citrus liquid dish soap for sensitive hands, the frankincense body wash, Sal's Suds (they have all the Dr Bronner products you could want!), and the Griffin glossy hair conditioner. They have such a wide variety of products, both in type and brand. The essential oil bar is a great bonus!
Check out their menu online, where you can also order delivery. They offer curbside pickup too, but I've never seen more than 4 people at a time in the store. It's clean - duh, it's a soap store - and I feel totally safe going in to shop during covid.
Anyone's kitchen and/or bathroom can become low-waste by shopping at Soap Refill Station. No waiting for shipments ordered online, no sacrificing quality. I'm so thankful to have this...
Read moreLove that there is a place within reasonable distance of me where I can refill on common household and personal care items. Reducing waste is so important and it's nice that many of their prices are reasonable too. The baking soda-free deodorant was unfortunately too pricey for my budget but they mentioned that they were currently looking into creating their own housemade option so I'm really looking forward to that. I've only recently started shopping there but so far I've tried their apple cider vinegar shampoo bar (hoping it helps with my dry scalp- hard to rate after only two washes though), espresso soap bar, and purchased a couple of their swedish dish cloths. I also purchased heavy duty dish soap and liquid laundry detergent but haven't used them yet (as well as their tooth salt but I dropped/broke the jar before I...
