Playful Pawz - A Canine Pet Resort — Local services in Kemah

Update: we no longer use Playful Pawz. Their service has gone down since their staffing changed and the owner is not on premise as much as she used to be when the place first opened. We have used Playful Pawz since the first day it opened in May, 2018 because they were the only CLEAN place we could find that had a dog run for our pups. We were at the tail end of training 2 puppies & didn't want to come back from a 17 day vacation to puppies who urinated in the house again because they did their business on pads. So, we hoped on board the Playful Pawz in Kemah train & prayed they opened before our trip. Note: they opened the day before we were leaving! Two years later we take both dogs for Unleashed Day Care (playtime) at two times a week and have not left our dogs anywhere else when they need to Board Overnight! Even during my most recent back surgery when the big dog had to stay for 2 months straight! We NEVER worry about the quality of care our pups are getting. They ALWAYS come home happy to see us, but exhausted from their stay! AND, we have never had an incident where we got a sick dog back; they will report to you if they see something wrong with your dog and they are super conscious to remove them from play if necessary! They accommodate just about anything you ask for. We went to Europe our first trip using Pawz, communicating via email most of the time and we received replies speedily and had pics of the dogs often. The staff is wonderful and love your dogs almost as much as you do. And, the owner, Theresa, is wonderful and fair to work with should you need special accommodations. I cannot stop saying enough about this place and will continue to recommend and use this place until I no longer have a dog to bring (even then I might just visit to watch the large dogs in the play, pool yard: watching the dogs play & swim is cathartic! ). Bring your dogs here if you want the absolute best care...

My dog has been boarded here a few times over the last month and they were very accommodating to my same day inquiries about boarding. They take a lot of pictures and they have very nice facilities and I would board my dog here again. The only thing I would be weary of is letting my dog do play days during the heat of the summer. (And this is at any daycare, not just here)

I usually don't do that anyway because my dog isn't used to being outside that much but I didn't want him cooped up in his room all day either so against my better judgment I let him play and when I picked my dog up he was acting strange. For the next week he wasn't himself and his breathing was off. I took him to the vet twice and they confirmed he had had a heat stroke or heat related incident. I want to be clear I am in no way blaming the daycare and like I said before, I will take my dog back because they took excellent care of him and even told me that he seemed really tired when he left home with me. I just want you all to be mindful of the Texas Heat, it's no joke!

The main reason for my 4 star review is that the daycare is a little pricey compared to the other daycare I usually take my dog to. I usually pay $45 for a nice room, daily pictures and daycare all together vs the $75 I spent here. My dog is just as safe and just as well cared for at the other daycare so it's hard for me to justify the extra cost but it's still a great option if you live in the area and I think they do have cheaper kennels but they weren't offered to me. Maybe my dog is too...

Took my dog DJ for the first time. We were headed out of town for a few days and while we got a vacation, he did too! From the moment we pulled up, I was impressed with the accommodations. Staff was excellent and you know dogs know when they meet good people… DJ seemed right at home for the adventure. They kept us updated with daily pix on their Facebook page. We opted for open play time and my dog (who doesn’t generally like water) even embraced the cooling pool. The daily attention he received plus excellent care on his exit bath and nail trim were top notch. Special recognition for Delilah who spent time with DJ daily playing his favorite game of catch with the squeaky tennis ball.

He had a ball and I could rest easy knowing he was safe and spoiled properly for a few days. We wouldn’t hesitate to bring him back. Excellent people, care...
