Upper Crust Catering — Local services in Kendall Township

FIRST REVIEW WAS 5 STARS This review is strictly about the taste of the food & the price, as we have yet to have our event. After searching high and low for a full-service caterer that wouldn't break the bank, I found Upper Crust. We had a tasting this past weekend and immediately gave them a deposit. I can't stop thinking about how good the food was. Looking forward to our upcoming wedding even more now knowing we’ll have a wonderful dinner for our family and friends.

UPDATE We had our wedding this past weekend and were very disappointed to find out the quality of the food wasn’t close to what we had at the tasting. The pork was pale, had a mushy stuffing, and had no sauce. While it didn’t taste bad, it wasn’t close to the same. The green beans were awful. I like green beans and honestly the ones in the tasting were hands down the best green beans I’ve ever had. Even my now husband who hates green beans liked them. The ones we were served at the wedding I couldn’t even eat. Tasted like flavorless frozen cut green beans, not the fresh roasted one we sampled.

We opted for family style. The servers were wonderful and very attentive, at least for the head table and the parent’s tables. We were to have enough servers for all the tables, not sure how many we ended up with but it took some tables more than an hour to get their food after the head table was severed. Simply unacceptable! Upon finalizing payment we were told the servers stayed until 12:30am to fold up tables and chairs. This is not true! We left before midnight and no one was left. Also, the venue is responsible for taking down tables and chairs which is typically done the following day. My family ended up breaking down the furniture not knowing they didn’t have to, the servers had nothing to do with that. In addition it was only 2 servers that remained to make sure the leftovers were packaged and picked up.

This is a perfect example of bait and switch. Their prices are pretty decent. Best advise I can give is to NOT have a tasting, you’ll be let down...

Used upper crust for our wedding. VERY affordable pricing. Food was delicious. Now, that comes with a tradeoff-

1. They may run a small operation, and so, communication and timely responses was pulling teeth. If that causes you anxiety.. you may want to splurge with one of the big name catering companies.
2. they were provided timeline, layout, etc, and I am not so certain that was relayed to the staff that was actually there running the buffet line. Our main point of contact was not there. Buffet Tables were not pulled until 45 mins after we had planned for first dances. I’m no wedding expert, but our main point of contact could’ve Voiced any concern or expertise on serving times prior to the wedding, instead of their Buffett staff and us having to deal...

After reading the review by Kristy Hord I was reluctant to order from Upper Crust for my daughter’s baby shower. I’m SO happy I went ahead and placed my order. The food was amazing! Really, really AMAZING!! Everything was so fresh, nothing from the can and nothing frozen. I ordered the herb roasted chicken, braised beef brisket, buttered green beans, and the tyme roasted new potatoes, and mixed green salad, with assorted dinner rolls. All of my guests were talking about how good the food was and several of them asked for a business card.
