I hate to do this so.... I'll start with a STRONG endorsement before I get to my complaint. Dayton Brick Shop has a wonderful selection, fair prices, and a great staff. If you love building Lego's or your kids do, this place is wonderful.
Unfortunately, if you are a collector you probably can't shop here. I collect retired Lego sets sealed in box and I won't (can't) shop here. It's not because they have a poor selection or that they are overpriced; in fact, there are a number of sets I would buy from them if I could (hello Retired Ghost). I can't shop here because the price stickers they put on their Lego's ruin the box. They either leave a sticky residue or tear the package.
It's baffling that they use these price stickers.... imagine being a resale shop, purchasing an item from someone to resale and then intentionally lowering the value of said item. I have 200+ retired sets sealed in box. If they had Dayton Brick Shop price tags on them (Dayton Brick) would literally pay me less for them. Whats worse is they KNOW these stickers lower the value of their retired sets (but they don't lower the price accordingly). I wonder why their most valuable set has a post note for a price tag......

Read moreWe LOVE the Dayton Brick Shop because:
We recently had our daughters birthday party there and everyone LOVED it! Rachel, our hostess, was incredible - every time I went to do something she was already on top of it. From unloading our car to wrapping up extra food, she was fully engaged in the whole party. Plus, she was warm and engaging with the 16 kids. Tons of great memories, happy kids, AND low stress - what more can a Mom ask for??
They let you build your own minifigures and they have a ton of parts to choose from that you don't see every day. Our daughters have spent hours creating the perfect figures.
Their events are incredible. Their Santa was simply the best, they had a really neat ornament build, and Jack and Sally were amazing at Halloween!
I could go on and on about how much we love this place. Go see them yourself and you'll realize how lucky we are to have such a great place in our...
Read moreGot to ding the Dayton Brick Shop a little. We bought a fairly expensive mini fig set that consisted of six characters. In the display case the sets are on base plates. As we were being checked out, the base plate was removed and not given to us. Pretty sure the base plate cost less than a $1 (it had the price we paid, which signified the “investment” we just made). In the grand scheme of things not huge deal, but it did sour the experience a little. In paying such a large amount for the collectible, I would have liked to have had the base plate as well. The girls checking us out even agreed that it should have been included. Otherwise it’s a great store with a very nice selection. However, it’s the little things and the great experiences that keep people coming back. To the store owner(s), please remember that. For me, not getting that one little base plate didn’t make the great experience I would have hoped to...
