Bert's Surf Shop — Local services in Kinston

I used to shop here all the time. I came back to town to help my mother and stopped in to buy some flip flops. I found some for my daughter instead. I did not know If she could wear them so I was not going to purchase them. A lady came out of the back and told me that my father could bring them back the next day with the receipt of my daughter could not wear them. That all I needed was the shoes and the receipt. My daughter could not wear them my father took them back and the store would not honor what we were told. Informed us that the woman in question did not work there. However, the girl who rung us up knew her and told us she worked there and the same lady came out of the back room of the store. I live 3 hours 200 miles away from there and to get my money back they want me to drive that distance instead of honoring the return that was promised by their employee. I have worked in retail for 10 years and I would have been fired for doing what was done to me. DO NOT SHOP HERE. Bad experience all the way around wish I could...

Cool store in general, we love all the Bert’s locations. We drove out of our way to come to the original and to check it out. I first want to say it’s a nice store fairly clean good selection. The reason I’m giving it was because of the worker that was in there. We walked in greeted her, she went out of her way to stand up and stare at us. She followed us the whole time and stared us down. We were in there a total of 5 minutes because the worker kept giving us dirty looks and watching our every move. She didn’t say one word to us but watched everything we did. I could get it if we were some teenagers who looked like we would cause trouble but we aren’t. We genuinely love the Burt’s brand this instance was the first of its kind but it definitely put a bad taste...

I don’t get some of these reviews. I have never had any issue with anyone at this store. I have been shopping here for over 15 years, it’s a family run small business and they are always polite and helpful. Mrs Janet who works in the women’s department has been there as long as I can remember and she’s always very helpful to me and helps me find exactly what I’m looking for.
