Want to stay the way you are? Then keep driving down Kingston Pike.
Because if you are ever feeling young and wild, and dare to depart from the broad paths that society has well trodden, to poke down the crumbling side street and enter the questionable building with the mural on the side, you will eventually emerge an entirely different person. The process doesn't even hurt.
This is a heaven for the amateur, a home for the professional.
If life ever leaves you feeling a bit black and blue, come here to inhale the oil paint fumes, to whisper your darkest secrets to the charcoal vines, to dance with the sable brushes, to scream and cry and sing to the matte varnishes and alkyd mediums and midtone pallettes and thick white tubes of liquin impasto.
Just kidding. They would look at you oddly. Plus inhaling fumes is widely viewed as a risky occupation.
Total side note- You have not lived until you mix lemon yellow with some titanium white, a little cerulean blue and tiny hint of cad orange. Most painfully beautiful shade of yellow you'll ever see. I just want to eat it.
I googled "can you eat oil paint" and changed my mind.
A warning: if you pace the oil paint aisle for too long, you will absorb too many of the vibes and eventually begin to have artistic, van Gogh-like impulses, like passionately hacking your ear off with a bit of broken mirror.
Not to fear, the people that shop here are not quite as unstable as the artists of old, so they are usually able to restrain themselves from chopping off their ears, or at least they wait until they're out in the parking lot.
They have to keep the place clean, see. All those blank...
Read moreI'd been buying from Jerry's online for a couple of years before I found out about the store here in Bearden. It's a tad hard to find, but totally worth the time if you're a real artist looking for a great selection of high quality supplies. The store is well-organized and sections are clearly labeled, making shopping easy. I'm a colored-pencil artist, and was very impressed with the selection of high-end pencils such as the F-B Polychromos I purchased. There was a wide array of set sizes to choose from as well. I also found an excellent selection of supplies for other art genres I'm into, even the hard-to-find fabric dyes I like. Staff was great at helping me find things; I was a little confused about how foundation media were organized. They have some with each category; canvases with paint, paper with pencils, etc. but the majority (huge amount) of foundations are in the back. They have a discount program that gives you 10% off regular-priced items as well. I highly...
Read moreWent to Jerry's for the first time today. They have a massive selection of products! Pretty amazing if you are an artist. I was really excited to check out the store. I went in and like 4 or employees were huddled in a circle. I was not acknowledged in the slightest. I walked around a bit hoping someone would ask if I needed help with anything (because I did lol), but I had to go ask an employee for help finding a certain product. Once I asked, they were friendly and helpful. Overall however, it seemed like I was more of an inconvenience to the store employees. Again, excellent product selection, some really great prices on brushes, etc, so don't let my review prevent you from checking this place out. Based off other reviews, maybe they were all just...
