The Shrimp Dock Bearden — Restaurant in Knoxville

Today was a disappointing experience and the first time we met the owner. First we witnessed a customer ask about their food. The owner told her it was still being cooked. My fiance asked if the food behind the owners was hers. It was. The owner said they typically don't bring food to the customers outside...which is a lie. I've never not had my food brought to my outside and we ate here frequently. Next, I was helping someone get a wheelchair inside and had both my dogs on leashes. One started as if she was going inside and the owner yelled at me not to bring them in. First of all, one is a service animal. She can go anywhere I go. Second I wasn't bringing them inside, I was helping someone else inside and it was very obvious what I was doing. I understand not wanting animals inside, of course but I feel it didn't need to be said as it was obvious I was helping someone. Last, my service dog always eats on the table which is why we only eat at places with outside seating. I would never put her on a table inside for obvious reasons. He came out and said a woman complained and she couldn't be on the table, it's a health code violation, etc. And it very well may be but I've had this little dog on tables all over Knoxville and the country. So if it is a violation I'm shocked I'm just hearing of it now after 3 years of my dog hanging out on the table. She has always ate on the table at this particular shrimpdock as well as at a few of their other locations on occasion. For reference, she is roughly 3lbs maybe 3.5lbs. So if it was allowed I would have preferred to have been told 5 months ago. Not to mention it's an outdoor, wood table. You can't tell me birds don't sit on it, haven't used the bathroom on it, etc. My dog is the least of your worries if your truly worried about bacteria and things being clean. Food is decent, we always got grilled shrimp or red snapper. Sometimes they use lots of blackened seasoning so we got our things lightly blanckened which can result in next to no seasoning, a medium amount, or anything in between...there was never any telling. They always have something fresh and more often than not are honest when you ask what is fresh. If I had never witnessed the owner lie to another customer and then have our little issues it would still be one of the places we frequent at least weekly but after today I'd rather take my business elsewhere. I love seafood and have always wanted to try this place so i went to the one out by farragut and it was close to closing time but i figured they made everything fresh i would give it a shot. The person taken my order wasnt happy to see us come in 20mins before closing for lunch even though it was a to go order. I tried asking what was the most popular things with not much help i ordered the shrimp dinner with rice and potato salad. I got home and i couldn't believe how little these shrimps were i mean without the batter u could hardley see them and were tough. The potato salad wasnt very good at all but i loved the rice. I think they gave us the shrimp that goes on the po boy instead of the bigger shrimp for dinner im not sure but wasnt given the choice. But sitting here being friday i usually get a fish fry from somewhere and was really wanting to give the shrimp dock another chance but i just dont know that i can but i know if i did it would be the Bearden location. I visited for the second time to get some Halibut as you can not find fresh anywhere else locally. Last time a few weeks ago, I mentioned I wanted to cook it in the Blackened fashion and could they suggest spices? Gentleman was very friendly and offered me a small condiment container with the blend they use when cooking in the kitchen. Charged me like .50 cents. Well this visit I was determined to get the brand name of what they used to try to buy my own bottle or jar to have on hand. Well same guy showed me the brand and apparently gets in 6 pound tub of spices. However, after stating I loved the stuff and an alternative I had bought did not compare to his. He went in the back and came out with a spice bottle filled to the brim of their blackening spice for me to take home with me. This Gentleman went out of his way and for such I greatly appreciate it. Will definately be going back regularly to support their business....
