When you are in the mood for steak, you just have to try a place called Boss Hogg's - even if it is just one visit. 1. Having read some of the previous and recent reviews, I was not sure what to expect but we decided to take a chance. 2. Cleanliness - the parking lot was clean of trash, the bathrooms were acceptable, but with two toilets in the ladies' room and no separating wall or doors, it left some to be desired. The rest of the restaurant seemed clean and the tables were not sticky. 3. Staff - welcoming and friendly. Even though not overly busy, she was attentive to filling our drinks when empty. 4. We tried a couple of appetizers including the chicken butts and the snake bites. Both are built around a jalapeƱo popper and were incredible. Probably the best we have ever eaten. 5. Three of us got a salad from the salad bar and it was just an ok option. Only one type of lettuce and the rest of the options were for toppings like cheese, croutons, bacon bits, cherry tomatoes, etc. 6. On to the rest of the food: A) Probably best baked potato I have had in a very long time. B) Homemade bread was very tasty, although the end piece was a little on the crusty side like it had sat for awhile. C) Being a saloon as well, all types of drinks were on offer. D) The smoked chicken is possibly the best we have ever had. It was not overpowering and was an entire half of a chicken. E) This is where things were a bit of a letdown - the steak and the fries. Three different steaks were purchased. The fat was grisly and not one of the three were cooked correctly (two mediums and one medium-well). They were bland at best and obviously not a good cut of meat. This may not always be the case but it was with us. If we returned, we would get the chicken before we got the steak again. As for the fries, they were homemade, but had zero flavor like the chef for the day forgot to add any seasonings including salt. F) Another purchase was the blue cheese burger which was very tasty and a generous size. Again, fries were not great. Overall impression, the steak was not worth the price, but the appetizers, burgers, and chicken was definitely worth it. We would probably try this place again even though a little on the pricey side.

We are traveling on a motorcycle from Richmond Virginia to the Grand Canyon and back, learning all sorts of cool stuff about this country. Welp, I learned all about Rocky Mountain Oysters at Boss Hogs Saloon I saw fried oysters on the menu and I thought about how long it had been since I'd had any. Long time. So I ordered them. Then, i started thinking... I'm in Colorado, where do they get oysters from, so I ask. Waitress says, "Right here, in the Rockies!" I'm so confused. I know there's a lot of streams, rivers, lakes around here, but where I'm from, near the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, THAT'S where we get our oysters from. I guess she senses my thought process and whispers, "They're bull's balls!" Whoa!! Ok, hahaha never mind. Now I know. Instead of bull's balls, i decided on the BBQ Ribs which I think tasted way better than bull's balls would have Meanwhile, husband, who orders steak and shrimp, is getting a kick out of the ordeal and has texted his buddies about the oysters. It'll be a while before I live this one down. Great restaurant, and I think one of the very few in this small town, that is open past 2pm.

So, if you are just passing by or if you live near by. I highly recommend this place. The food was HOT AND PHUCCKING AMAZING.,.., pardon my espaƱol.....but it totally was, just took my wife there tonight for dinner, we ordered today's deal #1 2 sirloin steaks, with shrimp, and a baked potato and of course salad. And an appetizer.... 2 desserts,it also came with a glass of wine.... We were seated promptly, menus on the table as soon as we sat down, the staff is super friendly and professional. The place was packed, we were thinking that we might have to wait long for our food, not the case considering how busy they were. My steak was just perfect, my wife ordered her slightly more cooked than what we usually order so next time she'll probably order hers like I did mine. Hope you get a chance to stop in and savor some good cooking. Oh, and the salad was awesome as well .....

Having read some of the previous and recent reviews, I was not sure what to expect but we decided to take a chance.

Three of us got a salad from the salad bar and it was just an ok option. Only one type of lettuce and the rest of the options were for toppings like cheese, croutons, bacon bits, cherry tomatoes, etc.

On to the rest of the food:

A) Probably best baked potato I have had in a very long time.

B) Homemade bread was very tasty, although the end piece was a little on the crusty side like it had sat for awhile.

C) Being a saloon as well, all types of drinks were on offer.

My boyfriend and I spent the weekend in La Junta and wanted to find somewhere to go out and eat. This was one of the 2 places that were open until 9:30. I ordered the sampler plate that had a bunch of fried options. The best thing on the plate was probably the mozzarella sticks and fried mushrooms. I then got the fried catfish with a side of coleslaw and a baked potato. My boyfriend got a burger with no bun that was drenched in green chillies (obviously from a can which is misleading when they advertise it as a "house recipe") and topped with fries. I received my catfish and coleslaw and waited for my baked potato. The waitress we had didn't check on us once. I consistently had to try and get her attention if we needed anything. My catfish looked like it was cooked in oil that's been used hundreds of times with how black it was. The flavor was questionable as well. My boyfriend did not care for his burger since he described the green chillies as "flavorless". After finally getting our waitresses attention I was able to ask for a margherita and my baked potato. She apologized and brought the potato and went to make my drink. To my surprise, I received a baked potato, wrapped in tin foil not 20 seconds later (like they had them on hand which was confusing as to why I hadn't gotten it when I had gotten the rest of my food 10 minutes before), along with "vegetable spread" (no, not butter) and sour cream. By my understanding, you should have cheese with a baked potato but whatever. Regardless, that baked potato was the best thing I ate out of everything we had ordered. I paid $60 for all this and was left very unsatisfied. The locals seem to like it there and who knows, maybe we just ordered the wrong items, but from the service and food we received I would never recommend this place to anyone just...

I have driven by this restaurant several times, and decided to check them out.The parking lot looked busy, now believe the apartment across street use it.There is only one or two tables taken. We went inside to a very dingy dirty restaurant. The town is old so I overlook this.We order our food drinks come with a quickness,We ordered the house margaritas they were terrible the most sour margarita I ever had.My husband didn’t even drink his.Next we place an order on the highly overpriced menu. When our food comes we become really sad.The salad bar is good.Although every table in the place was waiting for someone to put salad on it.When she finally refilled it, there was a rush to the bar.I had to wait about fifteen minutes to get a salad. In taking this salad one had to really dig to find vegetables that were not rotten. It took so long to be able to make my salad my dinner arrived right behind it.My husband order the pulled pork there was so much bread on the sandwich you couldn’t really find any meat.Plus what little meat there was on it was hard and dried out.I order a ribeye cooked medium. The steak was cooked to perfection but was not edible.Every single bite was filled with fat.I finally waved a waitress down to ask for steak sauce.Sadly they don’t have it.Only the sauce placed on it as it’s cooked.Next I order a baked potato, this potato was brown as mud and tasted the same.We asked for a check. The waitress asked if everything was ok.My husband and I both told her it was the worst restaurant we ever went to.She noticed I couldn’t even eat my food and charged me half price for my meal.Do yourself a favor and drive on by here.As slow as they were the food should been on point.Or however they are so slow they serve very old food.I have no clue why this...
