Wild Asparagus Catering — Local services in Lake Barrington

As embarrassed as I am to write this at least 40 people at my July wedding did not get fed a main entree at my wedding catered by wild asparagus. The most frustrating part is they have taken zero responsibility for this error. I have all the emails saved regarding the communication between us and wild asparagus dating back to February. In a email I have that wild asparagus is the ones who suggested two sliders per person and to add mac n cheese. My wife did not want mac n cheese served at our wedding. We also took off the second salad as we did not feel it was necessary to have two salads. After we paid 50% of the bill, during the months of April thru June not one word was discussed about the menu quantities. As this was an all outdoor wedding I was preoccupied with all the other items that were needed to bring in. The only mention of the menu from wild asparagus was when we gave our final head count, which was 5 more than original, and I quote "I dont think you need to add any more food." Having put my money and trust into wild asparagus I did not think anything of it and didn't look over the menu quantities again. To make my mind more at ease while I was at wild asparagus the week of the wedding I was also told "dont worry, there will be plenty of food." 25% OF OUR GUESTS DID NOT EAT to include myself and my bride and most of the wedding party. Some of the lucky guests were able to get there hands on some cardboard pizza. I hope no one experiences the feeling that me and my wife felt the days after our wedding and also while on our honeymoon. I was baffled when wild asparagus took no responsibility for this large error in calculation and basically blamed everything on my wife, her mother and our "rude" guests who filled up their plates while passing thru the buffet line when we adamantly said we did not want a buffet and wanted grab and go type stations in the first place. Wild Asparagus Catering has been a staple in our life; 10 years and counting! My neglect in sharing my wonderful experiences is ending today. I have had Wild Asparagus cater all 3 bridal showers for my children as well as a shower I held for my dearest friend's daughter. Each was personalized to each bride to be and was perfect. Next, were the baptisms for my beautiful grandchildren as well as my husbands retirement party. All of the above were in the comfort of my home and were perfect. Each was unique, but my husbands retirement party stands out. It was a particularly, incredibly rainy day and I was expecting close to 50 guests. First came the set up crew (bartender, (Tim) catering lead (Sheila) who literally asked how they could be helpful as I was definitely beginning to stress. Bar set up (most important), buffet table turned from a flat landscape to an incredible display of "tiered" yummy foods (do you have any boxes, flat bowls etc) to my highboy tables which I thought I had "dressed" correctly, to elegantly bowed and poofed areas for our guests. As the rain continued, and as my guests arrived, they were met CAR SIDE by an umbrella holding "valet" .... truly above and beyond the duties they were hired to do. And then the delicious buffet I was helped to create thrilled and satisfied all of our guests .... and us the next day as we reminisced of the evening before. Bridal and Baby showers were amazing and so relaxed because I KNEW they were my go to caterer. Then our son get engaged and chose a venue in Chicago where you have to bring EVERYTHING in. I immediately guided my son and now daughter in law to Wild Asparagus and they chose them over other caterers. This beautiful wedding took place just this past weekend, June 15th and Wild Asparagus Catering created the most beautiful tables, served the tastiest appetizers and we all enjoyed a wonderful wedding dinner! It was incredibly important to my husband and I to have delicious food at our wedding, and also to have several options (we have some vegan and gluten-free guests, myself included). Wild Asparagus was the only catering company that we did an actual tasting with, and we were sold instantly! The food was SO delicious, all of our guests loved it. We were, unfortunately, a “covid couple”, and we had to postpone our wedding a year due to the pandemic. During that time, there were a few very small price changes to the contract, and one very large one (the price of the steak medallions more than doubled). We were really disappointed that they weren’t able to honor the pre-pandemic pricing that was in our contract - HOWEVER, we were able to make a change to the menu and everything ended up being truly delicious and wonderful. There were a few staffing changes that happened during this time as well, and one that happened about 3 weeks before our wedding (the main coordinator switched from Kelly to Sheila, due to personal reasons). They were INCREDIBLE during this transition, and Sheila was such a joy to work with!! We could tell we were in such good hands, which was a huge relief. Even though there were some bumps along the way (which is valid, it was a pandemic afterall), we are so incredibly glad we went with Wild Asparagus for our wedding caterer!
