Professor Janvier Jones, I am emailing on behalf of a complaint in regards to Professor Sigfrido Reyes. On February 21, 2017 around 10:00 a.m. Pensacola (cst), I attempted phone contact with him. Though he had answered the phone, he then asked me to hold for a moment which I agreed to do as I was grateful for his time. However, when he put the phone down, I heard him say to whoever was in his office at that time. I heard these exact words, “It is no one on the phone, but an online student.” Then he continued talking to an unidentified person in his office. Unfortunately, I hung up because I was on a prepaid phone; however, I called back about five minutes later to talk with him in order to discuss a class assignment. Once he picked up the phone, we began to speak about the classroom assignment. During the conversation, he emphasized that I needed the textbook for his course. As I was explaining myself to him, he became rude as he reiterated that I needed to purchase the textbook. He also stated, “If you do not purchase the book, then you need to withdraw from the class,” so rudely. Though I tried to tell him that I could not afford the book, he responded, “That’s not his problem.” He also reiterated that I could use a textbook from my local library. He also told me that it was not his responsibility to tell me this information and he continued to speak rudely toward me. He even stated, “I have a personal life.” I expressed that I understood his point, but I tried to convey to him that he should care about his student, especially in regards to their academic performance. I then asked him to stop yelling at me and then he used profanity before he had hung up the phone on me. Though I attempted to contact him three times, he refused to answer my phone calls. As I was greatly concerned about such mistreatment, which was quite unprovoked, I contacted the college and spoke with different office managers according to college policies in order to resolve my concerns.    Read moreI started my first year at the old Kennedy King back in 2007 when I was 24. I lived within walking distance from the school. I met some great people from different cultures and did well academically. I had honors English and got the inspiration to start writing and journaling... Once the school closed I began to pursue a family and had my daughter in 2008. I took online classes from another City College while I nursed my daughter for the first year of her life. I then moved to Arizona after I received a offer from a Fortune 500 company. I met a beautiful woman that inspired me to start my own business and do something that I truly loved. I realized that I needed to finish what I started at KKC and moved back to Chicago in 2012. It was slightly challenging for me to adjust my Mental Perspective and get back into the campus life. The staff always helped me whenever I asked them questions. I would go to the career room after class and look for Jobs and the staff was always Motivating me and uplifting me. With a focused mind and creating positive patterns, prayer and faith I graduated in 2014 with my AAS in Liberal Arts and recieved a Marketing Management Certification also. In 2013 I took a poetry class and a 2 Speech classes and I created my first website and started writing a poetry book. I never thought I would be able to do anything of those things before I started at Kennedy King. I published my poetry book with Outskirts Prees in March of 2016 and I'm now working on my Signature Cardigan line in light of the upliftment of Cancer, Lupus, and African unification. I plan to open my first boutique this year in the same community that inspired me to be Great!!! I thank God for KKC and the entire Staff they are all a big part of my success journey. I pray for the Abundant Health, Wealth, Success, and Prosperity for everyone student and staff member past, present, and...
Read moreJerome Balfour’s lack luster service as an academic adviser is factual evidence as to why Kennedy King College has and continues to experience a drop in enrollment. Mr. Balfour does not understand that as an academic adviser he is one of the first impressions of the institution that myself (a perspective student) and current students have as a deciding factor as to whether or not we choose to enroll or stay enrolled with the institution. He has a very unmotivated and standoff personality and was unwilling to offer me assistance or further explanations to questions asked. As I and others convened in the lobby we all noted the lack of progress we received after being seen by Mr. Balfour. I would like to give an excuse to his behavior as we all have bad days, but after speaking with his team members his unprofessional behavior is unfortunately his status quo. A college institution is none the less a business institution whose primary success depends on the satisfaction of their students and students alike. Whether the employee is a student employee or not, it’s imperative the staff servicing their clients are knowledgeable and trained to be a valuable resource to those seeking assistance. Hopefully in the future Mr. Balfour can motivate himself to the position he’s been granted as an academic adviser so students are encouraged to have a better...
