A couple of years ago this was a pretty cool place to go shopping for retro games at decent prices. I am down visiting for the last time, laying my grandfather to rest, and I go in to peruse before I head home. For whatever reason kingdom games has supposedly gone to modeling their price structure after gamestop's, and is willing to let a sale totalling hundreds of dollars walk out the door because of what some other company's site says. Some of my selections were in less than ideal condition, dirty, marked, loose cartridges, etc etc. I, nor any other retro enthusiast, will pay full or give full, listed price based on some other company's site, for something that is damaged, dirty, or in less than clean working condition. It's great to have for a guide, but you also have Ebay, facebook groups, esty, craigslist, retro price guide, and of course your own expertise to rely on if you have been doing it long enough and/or are old enough. Given that I own a shop in a different state that also deals in retro games, i am willing to give a fair value for what a game is worth and I know implicitly what that is through 20 years of expierience. I only resell items that are in more than acceptable condition due to having a higher standard which is what my store is known for. The damaged and dirty stuff I dont mind having for my play collection or to have on display for customers to experience. But I digress. Simple supply and demand also plays a part in it too. Their bigger store is nice, but I think they have lost touch with the core essence of dealing in the video game trading industry. The item is only worth what someone is willing to give you for it. I didnt haggle over the 100 dollar item that was complete in box with inserts and instructions, clean, and well taken care of. But when an unpriced loose cartridge that is beat up and dirty, but they want a ridiculous amount of over 30 bucks based on what some other company's site says, that's not even worth it when I can easily find it elsewhere, probably in much better condition, which then would be worth the 30 bucks. This also means lots of their other stuff is probably overpriced too, not taking condition of the items into account, and so over a mere matter of a few dollars, they lost out on a big sale, without having to take anything in on trade. My professional recommendation is that you go shop elsewhere because obviously something has changed in the 3 years since I last visited, and it's no longer a place I will recommend to anyone. As a bit of courtesy repayment to the powers that be there that introduced me to the retron line of products years ago..... I do happen to know for a fact that gamestop's retro game listings are mostly all fluff and based on nothing. Most of the games they have listed arent even in stock or are listed differently than the condition on their site. To each their own on how to run a business, but letting big sales walk out the door like that instead of giving up a few dollars here and there because you're selling dirty damaged items really isn't good for business in the long run. I wont be back until they are forced to liquidate because I dont support businesses that try to take advantage of people, and then try to say it's because of some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCalled last week about selling some Yu-Gi-Oh cards and the person on the phone said they only buy them if they're worth $5 or more. We said ok and went in later that week. When we arrive the store was bigger than we thought and full of product. Lots of selection. There was 1 person ahead of us in line and 1 behind us and a few people milling about or sitting at the game table. When we got to the counter my husband explained that he called about the cards and showed him some from his collection of first editions and foils. He got "that's going to take me forever, I'm really busy" and then a scoff "no one's going to buy that around here" regarding a card that was worth a lot more than $5. Overall he was very dismissive and unwelcoming and frankly acted like we shouldn't even be there. Believe me we didn't want to be at noon in the heat. We made a special trip because we were told you buy cards. I understand there were other customers. He could have asked us to wait while he helped the one other person in line or come back at a slower time. He did say he could take our number and call us if anyone was looking. He was obviously not interested and wasted our time and gas. Perhaps this person could use some more training in customer service and put in a bit more effort to help actual customers instead of the friends hanging out smoking their vapes. Yes a person was vaping when we walked to our car and looked back inside. Needless to say we won't be going back into the shop for any reason. Perhaps you might have better luck, they do have a big selection of...
