Brookhill Azalea Shopping Center — Local services in Lakeside

They had a huge turnover of businesses but seem to be doing pretty well. Dollar General opened a big store there, in the old Family Dollar. Dollar Tree opened a store in a former supermarket across the way, which is why family Dollar left. The Food Lion there has really stepped up their game, they are neat and clean and well organized and very professional, with nice prices. There are a couple of Chinese carryouts a laundromat and some other businesses I have not yet patronized. On the front side there's a steak and cheese place that I'm anxious to try. And there's the old standby KFC, which is not my favorite KFC in the world. Anyway, considering that a Walmart neighborhood market and a Wawa just opened across the street from the center, it has done well to hang on...

This isn't a tourist attraction. It's a strip mall. It has changed a lot over the years. I only visited to go to Taco Bell and I also went to the Dollar Store ($1.25) The Taco Bell is a 5 minute walk from the main mall. There's a Subway beside the Taco Bell.

This place is for locals. Pretty sure it's on a bus line. There's a Food Lion, cellphone stores, KFC and a bit of everything. I think I listed most of the well known places. There's now a doctor's office here. A family member went there recently ond she was there for a few hours. She wasn't pleased with the long wait but I've never been there.

Dollar store was decent. It was well stocked. Not a lot of boxes around.

I'll be honest. This plaza is in dire need of renovation. There are several empty buildings. Some of it looks run down. The whole plaza is out of date. Main attractions include a Dollar Tree, a Food Lion, a Dollar General, and a Bingo hall. A real live Bingo hall. Which could be fun if the entire place didn't look like it hasn't been touched since the early 2000s. To be clear, I don't say any of this to be mean. I honestly just think the community deserves better. There's so much potential for this space. It should be updated not only for increased revenue but for the sake of the people who live near there and have it as their only place to shop. I will say that the philly cheese steak place that's on the outer ring of the plaza makes good food so...
