Giant Eagle has some beautiful stores- this is not one of them. Where to begin. The entire store reeks a combination of sewer backup and halitosis; you can smell it from the parking lot, as if the store breathes through its entrance and exits. The parking lot is an accident trap;constantly packed with cars that are too tightly spaced, and the entrance/exit onto Bunts is downright dangerous, positioned at an odd angle to oncoming traffic. The front of the building is covered in streaks of rust and the sidewalks leading to and from it are frequently littered with upside-down shopping carts with hazard tape around them, marking something that needs repaired- that will never be repaired. The entrance to the store contains piles of cheese curls, generic pop, and potato chips stacked to the ceiling; one has to walk around these hoarder-esque piles through a narrow path into the store. Inside, you're greeted first by a produce section that often (but not always) is filled with wilted lettuce, overripe pathetic excuses for fruit that a food bank wouldn't accept, and veggies that bend when they should snap. If you're there at the right time, you might find fresh produce, but often it's so picked over or of such poor quality that you don't even bother trying. This Giant Eagle location doesn't seem to care. It's as if they don't have to, that they get so much business and are making so much money providing terrible quality and service that there is no incentive to try- must be nice. On top of all this, the produce is often more expensive than any other grocery in town. The remainder of the store is, unfortunately, more of the same. While some Giant Eagle stores sell beautifully prepared sushi and other high quality ready-to-go foods, this one seems to sell leftovers scraped out of the chafing dishes at Old Country Buffet. The seafood and meat sections aren't all that bad, but they're small, dimly lit, and unappealing. The dry goods selection in the center of the store also isn't bad, but there doesn't seem to be much pride taken in maintaining order and organization. Further, they are frequently out of basic items, but often have more random ones; there are likely 5 brands of wasabi peas, but good luck finding more than one cat litter option. The paper signage throughout the store is often curling in on itself, falling down, or non-existent. At the checkout, you're almost certainly going to wait. The employees, though kind, don't move with a sense of urgency, regardless of how busy the store is. It's as if everyone who shops there simply accepts the absurdly bad service as a consequence of living in Lakewood; the only other grocery choice is one of the worst Marcs stores in existence on Detroit Rd. There are self-checkout lines, but the machines are frequently out of service, and stay broken for weeks or months before they are fixed, making these lines just as long as the staffed ones. Okay, I know, these are all first world problems. Frankly, though, I think this Giant Eagle location treats its customers as if they live in the developing world, where high levels of service and quality aren't expected because there is no competition. It's shameful that hardworking Lakewood and surrounding residents can't somehow demand a better shopping experience, especially when they pay just as much or more for their food as customers at Heinens, or even Earth Fare or Whole Foods for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy visit yesterday was very disappointing, frustrating and Aggravating. I went to buy a few things and decided GE fried chicken would make a great lunch choice along with my co-worker . It was approximately 10:50, I asked the lady behind the counter when chicken would be out. She responded that I have to place an order 24-48 hours. I told her I didnāt want a pan just two lunches. She acted like she didnāt know what I was talking about and went to get her manager while mumbling that she was going to tell me the same thing. The manager understood my request and told me it would be ready at eleven. I shopped more then went back there was only baked chicken and sides out. We waited until approximately 11:10 am then left to go back to work. During that time the manager walked past us, didnāt ask or say anything, the original rude lady acted like she didnāt hear me and when my co-worker asked about it she behaved as if we were bothering her. I shop at Giant Eagle faithfully this incident however made me wonder if this rep was lazy, racist or both because Iām pretty sure thatās the worst experience Iāve had at any of the GE locations I shop at. She needs fixing, reprimanding & retraining. The manager wasnāt super helpful either. The two stars are for the clean store. This was at the...
