5 Stars is not enough. I took my 10 year old son and my 3 year old daughter into The Comic Book Underground two days before Christmas. We were just browsing and I'm sure that after taking one look at us it was safe to assume we weren't going to make a big purchase. The gentleman running the shop graciously showed my son where to find the types of comic books he was looking for and he pulled the boxes out and put them back for us. We were treated like family. He is extremely knowledgeable, but more importantly, he's just an amazing person. After my son rummaged through his collection and chose a couple Spider Man comics, the gentleman said to him, "You a Spider Man Fan?", to which my son shyly responded, "Yes.". He took the two comic books my son picked out as well as a very nice Spider Man action figure and handed them to my son wishing us a "Merry Christmas". He wouldn't take a penny from me. People and businesses like this are the backbone of our community and sadly they are few and far-between. This was my son's first experience in a Comic Book Store and I can guarantee you he'll remember this for the rest of his life and he'll recount this story to his grandchildren during his family Christmases after I'm long gone. Thank you, sir, for teaching my children what the meaning of Christmas spirit is. You've earned a lifelong customer in me and every member of my family. The Comic Book Underground...
Read moreWhile I was visiting Tampa, I had hoped to find a comic book store selling vintage Star Wars figures. Finding this store was like hitting the lottery. As soon as I walked in, I saw beautiful Mego, GI Joe, Super Powers and Secret Wars figures sparkling inside glass curio cabinets. Then I saw the Star Wars figures. Beautiful condition and fairly priced. Not only did I pick up about a dozen gorgeous pieces for my collection but I spent about 2 hours talking with the owner, John. I have been collecting for close to 50 years and I was absolutely mesmerized by his stories of growing up in a collector household. His tales of 1970’s and early 1980’s buys at K-mart, Child World, thrift stores and flea markets are the stuff of dreams. I was able to convince my wife to come back the next day and she bought me a mint Cantina playset for Christmas. She was willing to go to other comic book stores but I told her I won’t find a better one. Thank you for not only vintage toys but for the warmth and the experience. I am on the other coast about 5 hours away but already thinking about another trip. If you are a collector of vintage this store is...
Read moreThis was my first interaction with the shop and was very pleased. I was skeptical at first because of other times I tried to sell my comic collection, but to my surprise it was a pleasant experience. The owner was very knowledgeable and patient. I brought in over 500 Marvel Silver Age comic books to sell. When I left the store I will admit felt glad but a little apprehensive. Three days later I get a call that all my books were sold and I could come in and get my money. I was really surprised. Not only did I do better then I thought but I also found someone I could talk comics with. I have about another 1000 DC comics to sell and will head to The Comic Underground when I can pull them out of storage and go through them. It tough giving up your babies, but I glad The Comic...
