I would like to share my family's recent experience at this hospital. My mother was admitted after suffering a stroke, and I am pleased to report that the ER team was exceptional. She received the appropriate stroke medication promptly, and after three days, she showed no deficits—a remarkable outcome. During her stay, she spent 24 hours in the ICU, where her nurse, Bruce, provided outstanding care. Once transferred to the 4th floor, the nursing staff continued to be attentive and compassionate. I would also like to commend the neurologist, who checked in regularly during the first three days and provided thorough care and communication. Additionally, I would like to specifically commend CNA Deborah, whose care and kindness toward my mother were truly exceptional. She demonstrated a level of dedication that I deeply appreciate. However, I must express serious concerns regarding the communication and coordination among the medical staff. Despite multiple attempts, the primary physician, Dr. Rahman, was never available to meet with us or provide updates. We also waited two days for the cardiologist, who did not appear; instead, a cardiology practitioner was involved. Unfortunately, there was a lack of communication between the doctors, nurses, and charge nurses, which led to significant gaps in patient care. One of the most alarming issues was that my mother never received her essential medication—specifically, her cancer treatment medication—that she takes regularly at home. Additionally, although she was supposed to be started on blood thinners, this was not administered. When I inquired about the prescribed Eliquis on her last day, the nurse repeatedly provided inconsistent answers, claiming it was given at breakfast or by the night nurse, or that she was uncertain. This raises serious questions about medication administration protocols, especially given the use of bracelet scanning and medication tracking systems. Furthermore, I found the facility lacking in basic hygiene amenities. There were no showers available on the 4th floor, and my mother remained in the same gown throughout her stay without access to body wipes or assistance with personal hygiene, which is unacceptable. Overall, I am disappointed with the level of attention and communication at this hospital. Despite its reputation for a reputable stroke center, the apparent disorganization and neglect in other areas have led me to conclude that I cannot recommend this...
Read morePresented to the ER via ambulance from my workplace ~6am. I presented for a lot of different symptoms, one of which was confusion/disoriented. Couldn't think clearly at all. When asked my medication history, I tried to pull up my Medical ID on my phone as I could not remember the names of my medications or dosages. Whoever asked me my medication history brushed it off and said it wasn't necessary, they thought I was just experiencing a migraine, did not look at the medical information I brought up on my phone. I was alone in an ER bed and started experiencing tremors in my leg, wanted to signal something to nurses to see it, but they didn't put the alert button by my bed and my room faced a wall so no one could see me. Kind of unsettling. When I eventually saw a doctor, he was pretty nice. Said most likely migraine. Having never had one before, I was surprised and a bit relieved it wasn't anything worse. He performed no physical exam on me and was in the room for under a minute. Sent to CT to be sure it wasn't anything more serious. Nurses and transport were all very nice to me. Eventually set up with IV fluids and some medications. Provided little relief from my head pain, but stopped the vomiting for a little bit. I was able to fall asleep. Woke up and my doctor came in, said bloodwork and CT came back normal, discharging me with some medications. I was still very symptomatic upon discharge, called a family member to drive me home. All of my symptoms from intake persisted at home (including vomiting) and did not get better with medications they had prescribed. I slowly got better the following days, cognitive abilities coming back, still incredibly uncoordinated/unable to walk unassisted for 3 days. Upon consultation with my physician, it was their opinion I was misdiagnosed, the medications they gave me are actually contraindicated for the real problem. The missed diagnosis should have been high on the ER Doctor's differentials given the medications I was prescribed and a simple exam would have revealed a stimulated clonus that would have further pointed to the correct diagnosis.
Not impressed with the care I received, and the correct diagnosis is a potentially life-threatening condition so I was lucky to only have a mild case that didn't progress after I left the hospital. I would not...
Read moreI regret to say that my experience at Leesburg Hospital was extremely disappointing, to say the least. As a black woman seeking treatment, I expected to be treated with respect, empathy, and professionalism. Unfortunately, my needs were neglected, and my pleas for help went unheard.
From the moment I arrived at the hospital, I felt disregarded and ignored. Despite my persistent yelling, screaming, and crying due to the pain I was experiencing, the medical staff appeared indifferent to my distress. I specifically recall encountering a nurse named Tina, whom I only saw when I reached the point of utter frustration and decided to leave.
What troubled me the most was the lack of attention and compassion from the staff. It was disheartening to witness the nurses outside my room laughing, seemingly unbothered by my agonizing cries for assistance. The situation deteriorated to the extent that they even went as far as turning off my nurse call button, leaving me without any means of communication.
As a patient in pain, I expected better treatment from a healthcare institution. The disregard for my well-being and the dismissive attitude displayed by the hospital staff were not only unprofessional but also deeply hurtful. It is disheartening to think that such behavior still persists in today's society, especially in a place that should prioritize patient care.
I hope that the management of Leesburg Hospital takes this feedback seriously and takes immediate steps to address the systemic issues within their facility. No patient should have to endure the pain, emotional distress, and neglect that I experienced during my time there.
It is my sincere hope that this review serves as a wake-up call for Leesburg Hospital to reevaluate its practices, provide proper training to its staff, and foster an environment that prioritizes patient well-being, regardless of their race or background. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, and it is essential that Leesburg Hospital takes the necessary measures to ensure that future patients are not subjected to the same distressing experience that I endured.
I sincerely hope that my feedback is taken into account and that necessary changes are implemented to prevent such instances from recurring...
