In response to the owner's response: I did step foot in the store (back in 2011 and probably multiple times as I worked around there) so no need for snark. It is now 2019 and I now live in Amsterdam. As for what I can remember about the store 8 years later, not much.
Since you asked, here's my take: when I lived in Lex, I'd probably go to Gem Source and Artique as my first stops to buy, and Gem Source as my first stop to repair. I always support locally owned jewelers and jewelers who support expert makers/craftspeople, and Childress is locally owned and had some interesting pieces, but not as much as others. Great service but now that the daughter is in charge I wouldn't have them make anything. She actually got mad because my wife returned texted her not during business hours in a text stream which the owner started. Said it was unacceptable texting behavior to text off hours. She told my wife to come get her diamonds she couldn't take it anymore. So strange. If you cant do the work just say so. And if you have “texting hours” please tell us. Angela was warm and knowledgeable, allowing me to try on several rings. I didn't feel pressured to buy then and there, and she didn't seem to mind that I wanted to check out other options first. We tried Farmers, Mithril's, and Rivard's, but none of them matched the reasonable prices or amazing service that Childress had.
