I’d rather not be writing this review but I feel that the public deserves to know how this establishment operates. Also there have been many more unfair treatments of members(friends) so I would like for folks to be aware. I inhabited the sauna at City Fitness for the past few years. Very gratefully. They have the best selection of equipment around. The members are awesome. I am apparently the reason for the great sauna fiasco of the twenty first century. I would first like to shine legitimacy on some info shared in a prior review. The City member who cursed out Tyler, has done so to myself(approx 2 years ago) and others. I’ve witnessed it first hand. A few F bombs I believe, as he was trying to kick me out of the back room before any classes started. I mentioned it to Holly at the front desk in that moment. She said there had been a few complaints about James Weaver. Nothing else was said. I am the newest exile from City Fitness. Effective immediately 3/09/24 at 9:37pm. Apparently, for abusing the sauna. In which I cleaned puddles of sweat out of by hand(with towels provided by City Fitness) because there is no drain or evacuation for sweat or the water that would leak in from the steam room. It runs down the concrete seam in the sauna and through the drywall and out onto the gym floor below the water fountains. They will become aggravated with members and shut the sauna down for this as well. I proceeded to clean up after myself and others. Once they began shutting the sauna down after hours due to irresponsible members damaging, leaving trash, rags etc(none of which I did), Holly would leave the keys to the breaker room so I could turn it on. So there was obviously trust established there. The steam room is luckily shut down for repairs(again) but not until I was blocked on Facebook for responding to a comment on the City Fitness page about the mold growing above the steam room. The owner Mike Tesh called me to save face after they blocked me and deleted the post. He said that he takes pride in his businesses etc. Generally, when you take pride in something, you don’t have to announce it. It should show naturally. It was a quick way to get the mold fixed though because they had contractors in there the next week! Someone’s idea of moisture control is to caulk the surrounding drywall where it meets the concrete under where the steam generator is housed. When it is in operation, water fills the area on the floor, becomes stagnant and there is literal mold/mildew growing around the stand legs. There have also been photos of mold on the women’s locker room wall. After reckless members continued to damage the control panel and thermostat, it seems they had an electrician bypass the reset on the heater unit itself. I feel as if that could be a questionable decision as far as safety is concerned. Especially if the sauna is back open 24 hours. Which is after all why I was removed from this facility. Claims of being unsafe by temporarily covering a thermostat, under supervision to assist the sauna in heating. Members including myself did mention that the sauna was not heating up. No response. Holly later informed me that she “had her husband and others spying”. Although many members covered the thermostat and much worse, I was banished for this. I will not deny my doings of increasing the heat in the sauna but I have not contributed to any damage done anywhere on the property. I am solely guilty of boosting morale/the sauna temp and cleaning up after myself and others. I truly enjoyed the gym tools and mostly the members/friends I made. But I do believe it’s fair to spread awareness and the entire truth. Luke, Liam and Dillon(front desk) are all great dudes, by the way. It wasn’t my intention for this lengthy of a review but I have seen the fault be pushed off on members/previous when there needs to be some accountability amongst the...
Read moreI wish I had updated pictures of this gym. Most of the pictures on this post are from their old location and it looks quite a bit different.
The pros: it’s a very clean gym with a sleek look. It looks like an upscale, downtown gym but with a very affordable price. The group class room is available if you want a quiet space to train alone, but I prefer the vibe of being around a lot of people so I typically like to be out in the open space. There are tons of cardio and strength machines, and I’ve never had to wait for one to open up, even at high times.
I’m a competitive powerlifter and I have never seen a commercial gym with an OPB until I came here. I wish there was more than one, but I may be the only one who is picky about that kind of thing! They do have various weightlifting bars as well.
There are a lot of great features I personally don’t use, like saunas, showers, and tanning beds. They do have a vending machine for various pre and post workout drinks if you forget or run out of yours.
The neutrals: They have a deadlift bar, but unfortunately I’ve seen multiple people use this bar as a weightlifting bar instead. It’s already looking beat up. Cerakote isn’t the best for high-volume use, but it does look super cool when it’s new and/or taken care of! I say this is neutral because it isn’t the owners’ fault that members aren’t taking care of their equipment, but unfortunately it has taken its toll on such a great bar.
The negatives: There aren’t enough plates. Which… I kind of appreciate this because they have so many squat racks that if people are utilizing all of them, there aren’t enough plates to go around. EspecialIy change plates. I’ve only been able to find 3 2.5 pound plates in the entire gym, and there aren’t enough 5s for 2 benches and 5 squat racks (plus the rig in the group room), either. The benches are terrible. They’re those awful lifetime fitness benches with the fixed hooks that only work if you’re 6’6” or 5’0” I’ve come to expect this from commercial gyms, but this gym has so much top tier equipment I hope they’ll upgrade to decent benches at some point.
Overall, if you join this gym you’re getting a great bang for your buck, especially if you’re looking for a generic gym with a few...
Read moreWas going on and off for a while. After canceling my membership this last time, last month, a new transaction still came out of my bank account. I called and talked to Luke about the situation and he had told me it was a maintenance fee even though there is no card on file any longer and it says my membership has been canceled since last month(so when I canceled it.) my husband also went up there to cancel it because he had to sign a paper saying it was, in fact, being cancelled. While on the phone with Luke, he informed me he would make a few calls and give me a call back. That was yesterday morning. I called that afternoon and no answer. I’ve called 10 times today about this issue and still no answer. So now I have to waste my gas to go there to get to the bottom of this because they do not answer the phones and take money out of an account that clearly states it’s a CANCELLED membership.
Update: got a voicemail from the manager, who I called back & she proceeded to tell me about how she had gotten an angry text from her boss about my review & that she had gotten my information YESTERDAY and was planning on calling this afternoon (ironically). I told her I shouldn’t have to leave a bad review for me to get an answer as to why I was charged. She proceeded to tell me my account had been froze June 9th (also told me she doesn’t know how that happened) but the billing still gets sent off and that’s how I was charged for this month. She reassured me that nothing else could come out seeing as there was no card on file and then told me to please delete my review. Told me that even though I called 10 time through out today that somehow all of my calls were missed because there are times where they are away from the desk. I can completely understand this but seeing as I didn’t call consecutively, one of those 10 (11 if you count after leaving this review ) should have been answered. I just find it ironic that I get the phone call about this issue after my review. Only reason I left it initially was because I was receiving no response from them in the first place and it seems like the reviews get responses.
Other than this it’s an alright...
