My first visit there went ok but not great and I did not feel in any way special or taken care of. I must say I was taken aback by the customer service. Very clipped answers, not much smiling if any or offer to be helpful. My mom and I walked in and walked up to the counter and a brown haired middle aged lady was standing behind the counter. I said hi I have an appointment and she said ok are you you Amber, I said yes. She said ok go put on your dress and gestured to the changing area to my right- which I was upset with as the curtain had a fairly significant gap maybe 5 inches on the end which felt rather exposing! Then I got my dress on which took around 5-7 solid minutes of tugging and fixing- by which point I was hot and bothered. After I was done I came out and asked her "do you have a fan?" She said "the air conditioner is on" neither mom mom or I could feel it at all and the shop door was wide open. I said "oh ok" she said "so what do you need done?" I said "I just need the hem taken up please" I then walked over to stand on a wooden raised block area off the floor, and she sat down and started pinning my dress. She then said "do you want the hem off the floor or on?" I said "I'm not sure, what is better?" She said "personal choice" I said "oh umm ok, I don't know" my mom said "could you please show us?" I then asked my mom for something, anything to fan myself with, luckily my mom had a hand fan in her purse! Then the lady asked me "do you want a bustle" I had no clue what that meant and said "um I don't know what that is" she said "do you want the back up" at this point I'm totally baffled. Again my mom said "could you please show us what you mean?" And she went behind me gathered up my train and pinned it just below my butt, my mom then said "oh like for when your dancing or something then the train doesn't get in the way!" The lady said "yes" I said "yes I think that would be a good idea" and she said "ok. You can go take your dress off now" and I did and then came out when I was done "she said do you have a hanger?" We said "yes" and she said "I have a dry cleaning bag" we said ok, she told us the total, said I should come back in a months time for the next fitting and that was it we paid and I smiled at her and said ok thank you see you then she semi smiled and said ok bye.
I'm hoping the work she does speaks for itself, but just know your not going there to be made to feel special or for good bedside manner.
The other thing I noticed was that the floor near to the front door had leaves and dirt on it.
I will update my review...
Read moreGreat experience with Christine! Very personable and professional. Christine fit my alteration in on a tight timeline prior to my move out of town. She asked questions about my event to help get the exact right hem length - super detail oriented! She also helped steam out the wrinkles in the dress, provided her expert guidance on the necessity of other potential alterations, and explained strategies to keep the dress wrinkle free in the time before the wedding. The dress alterations turned out perfectly!
Really appreciated Christine's clear emphasis on health and safety during this time. The safety measures were posted on the website and also the front door. We felt very safe shopping here.
Great location in downtown Libertyville - so convenient!
Very affordable, especially considering Christine specializes in custom gowns. I would not hesitate to take any future alteration here, regardless of complexity.
The changing room, as others have noted, includes a thick, floor length curtain on a rod. To me this was absolutely sufficient and I did not have...
