EDIT
So I'd been coming to Abe's Caramel Corn for over 25 years, ever since I was a little kid, but I stopped after the previous owners garnered a lot of ill will from the community, for reasons I won't get into here. I left a very negative review here about a year ago, however I'm happy to report that the new owners have majorly turned things around!
For those not familiar, Abe's has been a charming downtown destination in Lincoln for over 40 years , selling caramel corn candy, and gifts in a charming old school building. I still remember going there every Sunday morning after church when I was like 6 to spend a dollar on whatever candy I could get my hands on! While the previous owners certainly let things go downhill towards the end, the new owners have really taken things back to that charming old school feel it used to have. The store is now more open, much less cluttered with cheap bric-a-brac and hundreds of stuffed animals. They're still serving up the same caramel corn and cheese corn I remember, with the same recipe they've had all these years. And the family that runs the place seems to be very warm and inviting to the community!
I'm definitely looking forward to popping in again soon, and I'll see if I can bring the nieces...
Read moreWith how they treat customers that are even a little different, you couldn’t pay me enough to go back into this store. The “better than thou” attitude for the incredible overpriced knickknacks and candy is ridiculous. I went in one time by myself dressed nicely and everything was fine, I went in dressed in my scrubs and they watched me like a hawk, and I went in once with my teenage son and it was like I was escorting a felon through security. Every time he got too close to something, there was an employee damn near on top of him even though he wasn’t touching anything and I was standing right there with him. He was raised to “look with your eyes and not your hands” and that’s exactly what he does. The whimsy and splendor that the store used to be is long gone unless you fit a certain...
Read moreSuper disappointed about how this establishment treats the youth in our community. Today my 15 year old daughter and her best friend spent after school in downtown Lincoln supporting many of our local businesses. When they came into Abes they were approached by an employee who didn't even identify himself as working there, then proceeds to ask the girls their ages and then refused them service. He stated they had to leave and couldn't come back without an adult present. This is an awful way to treat teens, or people in general. You just chased away your own business and two paying customers. If I could give you less than one star I would. Thank you to the other downtown Lincoln shops that welcomed these girls into their shops and treated them...
