This is gonna be long. I told her I would be there by 11. I was late because one of my family members took my car. I had to also make two trips because I forgot the hair I bought the first time. My hair was not started until around 12, which was fine. I was told my twists would only take 4 hours, meaning I should have been done around 4.
While doing my hair, she would start twists, then go work on some else’s hair. Another worker would finish the twists she started VERY slowly. Then I ran out of hair and had to go to multiple beauty supply stores around the area to find the same pack I bought. Once I came back she continued her previous methods discussed before. But then she told me she would take a break and eat, which I found unbelievable. I had been sitting there for six hours at that point with no food or water. I told her I needed to be finished because I had to get back to NY.
She finished around 6:30. I ended up missing a college welcoming party on a cruise boat because of this. Also, it ended up itching so bad that I couldn’t even sleep at night. I’ve gotten my hair braided, weaves, etc. and have not had this issue before. I figured it was whatever she sprayed my hair with and I took them out. I called asking for a refund.
She completely blew up on me, for she was angry about this review. She yelled at me for a these reasons:
Buying the wrong type of hair for the twists I wanted and running out. I explained that when I went to the beauty supply the first time (before I came to the salon) the lady who worked there told me that was the type I needed and that 6 packs would be enough. Perhaps if the stylist had told me which type of hair and how many packs to get, we would would not have had this problem.
Going out to buy more hair while she was working on me and running out again. That time she explicitly told me to get two more packs. The two ended up not being enough. That was not my fault either.
“Taking advantage of her kindness.” When we ran out of hair the second time, she used hair that she had at her salon. She hollered at me saying she didn’t charge me extra for the hair and that she told me the price on the phone (which she did not). I was sitting right next to a poster of their prices. It said twists if you brought your own hair would be $100, but if you used the hair they had you would pay $120. She charged me $120. That means she charged me extra.
It being my fault that the process took longer thank it should have. I admitted to being late to my appointment previously. I take full responsibility. Because of me, my hair was supposed to be done around 4 instead of 3. I am not the one who started twists and decided not to finish them so I could go do someone else’s hair. People who came in after me were done before me. I am also not the one who tried to take a break to eat. Lastly, it is not my fault that I had to run to multiple beauty supplies to find more hair because she didn’t specify over the phone how many packs I would need. Or the right type of hair to get.
I’m very dissatisfied with the “service” here and disgusted with how I was spoken to over the phone. I won’t be returning and I highly advise that anyone thinking about coming here...
   Read moreI would not recommend the services of Haby's African Braiding Salon to anyone. I previously received cornrows from them for 20 dollars. I returned for a similar style and was told 65 dollars because more hair was used. When I asked how much would it be to use my own hair I was quoted 60. So essentially the hairstyle went up 45 dollars for 5 dollars worth of hair. The woman assigned to do my hair then told me her aunt is not letting her do it because I questioned the price. The assumed manager recommended I go to another hair salon. I was appalled by the actions of these stylists. I have never been dealt with in such a manner. I could only assume that the poor customer service is a reflection of their lack of training in the field. I will be reporting them to the BBB and NJ state department for inspection.    Read moreLast year I left a review out of frustration and I am now retracting that. I want to sincerely apologize to Bebe. I came back after my initial visit and was very satisfied with the braids and the style that Penda did. A closed mouth don't get fed and if I would've spoke up maybe the end results would've been better. Water under the bridge now.
I was there right before covid and was happy with the end result.
I was just there Sunday and Penda did my hair exactly the way the I wanted it!! I appreciate the fact that even after the review Bebe remained professional and we can now laugh at it.
