I was staying at the Marriott next door. I often bring my skateboard and my truck and skate when I can to conserve gas. Went in here with a skateboard, backpack, and a cloth to dry myself off while skating. As Iāve done at any other Costco, I normally place my items in my backpack and when I am finished I place my backpack on the table to empty the contents, scan and leave. I was in the store maybe 3 minutes and was looking for a iPhone charger. I found a wireless charger that would be the only item I found in such a short sound of time. I was 2 isles in the store, not even heading towards an exit I was heading deeper into the store. I noticed a young kid who worked there giving me the side eye the whole time and as son as I put the item in the bag he told me to ātake MY #ā¬+ out of the bagā he was holding a phone recording me and took off his vest and name tag. I responded with āwhat are you talking about? Do you think Iām stealing?ā Confused by all of this. He said f-^ yeah I do. Drop the (another exploitative) since by now, he was not wearing any Costco outfit I said who even are you? He then said that he didnāt work there and that he does this on his free time, even though I just saw him before wearing the full outfit, including a name tag. Now Iām offended because I know this is all based off the skateboard. The ironic part was, that he also was wearing a bag now. I told him Iām not interested in spending money in this establishment, and as I walked away (leaving the 1 item in question) I was stopped by yet another Costco employee who asked to see my membership card. Weird since no one else was being asked. I present it and he asks to hold it and I decline. I make my way to the exit where a wall of loss prevention is physically is preventing me from leaving the store. A manager named either Collin or something extremely similar with a C was leading the conversation. He demands my member of (Again) and also demands I empty my backpack. Which I do and thereās nothing but a change of underwear (embarrassing, but sometimes I change when exercising) And a bottle of baby powder that I had previously also falls out. Embarrassing again. This was at the exit infront of all the exiting customers. One LP member walks up to the manager whoās leading the conversation, holding the suspected item (meaning it was left in the store, not my bag) and Collin instead of apologizingā¦. Then tells me Iām banned from Costco. All of this was so embarrassing I went home and instantly cancelled my Costco membership.
And if that wasnāt bad enough, the original guy who took off his vest and name tag and claimed he didnāt work there follow me to the Home Depot next-door and when I asked him why he was still following me responded with ā I am buying a knifeā I asked him why, And he just said āfor my job and for people like youā By then I felt threatened, so I left and called the Costco.
The Takeaway here is that Iām very understanding and nonconfrontational. If the guy who was buying the knife wouldāve asked me to not put items in the bag and use a cart instead, I would happily obliged, However, since he appeared to be his early 20s, I figured he just wanted to stir up some stuff for entertainment or something. Ive never felt so unsafe in a store in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisiting Costco can be overwhelming whether you're a hardened card carrying veteran or tagging along with a friend for the first time. It's a warehouse but this doesn't really cover the chaos that can happen on some days! Always be prepared for an aisle jam even if you think these aisles are spacious. That being said: please also don't be THAT person who stops in the middle, stands in front when others need to grab around you, bring a gaggle of any aged people who are not "reasonably" behaved (we're not asking for perfect but we don't want to hit you with our cart on purp-accident), walk so slow you could be breaking physics laws (road rules apply - pull out of traffic!) and most importantly stop blocking the samples for the rest of us! Ok, on with the review... Costco is a beast your significant other should never have allowed you into - and if you're single STOP BLOCKING THE SAMPLES. I think the unofficial minimum at Costco is $200 and you're required to buy water or people judge you severely. I have to say though that in the times I have visited the store has been very well organized considering how many people are always there and definitely NOT putting things back where they belong. Associates are always running everywhere so you can never flag one down for help but Members Services is right at the front entrance for all of your questions. It's a trade off I guess. Aisles mostly make sense for items but some are oddly placed and their online ordering is hit/miss. Being a member at any tier is worth it if you have a household just be sure you are taking advantage of their peripheral perks such as cheaper gas prices, company discounts at other places (travel bookings, home remodeling, buying cars, etc). Many people have complained they don't get much out of the membership but fail to check what added perks are available. Costco for example has some of the cheapest eye exams, glasses and contact lenses around. Gas alone though is a nice perk as they are almost always the cheapest in the area here. The downside: parking is a pain on busy days, still a pain on slower days and you have to have patience to stand in those lines. They do ring you up quickly and efficiently but it's a high volume warehouse. Depending on which one you visit: they can have slightly different inventory and a different experience. For example we decide almost always to travel to the next town over because it's just a better, friendlier, cleaner and more...

Then they had me pay across from the register where I was at . The lady took my receipt.
