Just the poor service would keep me from returning to The Sushi House. The menu is mostly maki (sushi rolls) and they're okay; it is 101 stuff with lots of variations on California roll, lots of shrimp, cooked ingredients. Very basic nigiri sushi selections. Freshness is so-so. The menu has half a dozen hot items, barely any apps. Prices are okay - fancy maki hovers around $10 per roll.
Service is not very good at The Sushi House. We had a party of 4 and they completely "forgot" my entree. There was nothing sitting in front of me and the waitress didn't notice. When my husband flagged another server down, the waitress basically said she thought we'd ordered so much food that she didn't think we really wanted 2 combo plates. This was very strange, she didn't clarify - she just assumed.
Nabeyaki Udon (about $10) was mediocre because the broth was over salty. The egg was cooked very well and the tempura was good, but the broth messed it up.
Last, the ambiance - it is messy in here. They have overflow tables and chairs turned upside down in full view of the dining room, messy floors, and the tables are pushed so close together, it's hard to get in and out in the main dining area. I can overlook these things if the food is good, but you already know where I...
Read moreWe were in Studio city and looking for a Sushi place for lunch. Katsuya is usually my first choice but it was a little past 1.30 pm and I didn't want to feel rushed as Katsuya closes at 2 pm or 2.30. We settled on the Sushi house deciding to give it a try. The first thing I look at when entering a new place is the level of cleanliness. The floors had just been cleaned as they were still a bit wet but the feel of slipperiness under our feet suggested that they merely smeared the grease around with some water. That wasn't a deal breaker but not the best scenario to prepare oneself for a meal. The waitress wasn't rude but quite disinterested and clearly uninformed about the menu. The food itself wasn't bad at all. The tuna roll was on par and we really enjoyed the dragon roll. The Sushi itself was fresh and ok but somehow a bit uninspired. Somehow I think they are better than what we experienced, perhaps they were feeling a bit lazy with the holidays fast approaching. I would give it a 3.5 but closer to 4 than 3. As a final note, it was...
Read moreHave been going to this place for yearssss, but it had been awhile, so I ordered on Grubhub for delivery. Got the fried gyoza, crunchy spicy tuna crispy rice appetizer, the Ja-chos (japanese nachos) and the Baked Longo roll. Omg, what a feast!!! Everything was crispy, fresh, flavorful and oh so delicious. I don't even know if i can pick a favorite out of them all, they were all really amazing, but the Longo roll was absolutely superb! The warm langoustine and mushroom "sauce" i don't know if you could call it that, over the sushi roll it comes with was just outstanding. And the Ja-chos again, fresh, flavorful the spicy tuna w the avocado and tomato pico de gallo over freshly made house chips and sweet mayo omgggg, i could eat that all day!! I will be returning again and again, what a fantastic treat...
