We were genuinely looking forward to our stay at Good Shepherd Homestay, especially after reading the many glowing reviews. The hosts seemed responsive and courteous during our initial communication, which made the sudden cancellation all the more disappointing.
We were driving down from San Francisco and juggling work commitments en routeāour arrival was expected around 1 AM. Unfortunately, the booking was cancelled that very morning, leaving us scrambling for alternatives on a long weekend, with limited availability and inflated prices.
While we understand that unexpected issues may arise, this last-minute cancellation had significant ripple effects. We chose this property based on both our budget constraints and its advertised EV charging, which was crucial for our road trip. Without it, we had to make multiple, unplanned charging stops and ended up overspending well beyond our estimated travel budget.
To add to the frustration, Booking.com stated the cancellation came from Good Shepherd Homestay, while the Homestay claimed it was Booking.com's doing. This lack of accountability further undermined our trust in the process.
It's worth noting that our experience may be an exception, but it raises an important concern: What if we had been on a flight, unreachable by phone or internet, and arrived in the middle of the night with no accommodation?
Ultimately, while the reviews are generally positive, our experience was marked by poor coordination and a disappointing disregard for guest reliability. We sincerely hope this was an isolated incident, but travelers should be aware of the potential risk when booking.
All that being said, we understand things happen and are changing our reviews currently to 4/5 due to the prompt responses currently...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had an amazing stay at Good Shepherd Homestay! The place was incredibly clean and well-maintained, with beautifully decorated rooms. The private bathroom was also spotless. The location felt very safe and welcoming, and itās conveniently close to all the main attractions.
The host is an absolutely wonderful person - very friendly, kind, and always willing to help. Everything went smoothly and I truly recommend this stay with all my heart!!!
Thereās also a fully equipped kitchen downstairs, where you can make tea, coffee, or anything you need. It had everything one could ask for!
If I ever return in the future, I would happily stay here again. I have only good memories from this place
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJacob has done a fantastic job with the property and I highly recommend it. The complex of about a dozen rooms is brand new and extremely well kept up. Jacob did a great job at communicating and getting me into the unit, he's clearly got this process down to a science and he's very good at it. Also a very interesting and motivated young man in his own right, to be building and running a hospitality business so well.
Good Shepard was a base for four days for me to visit my son at USC and it worked perfectly for that. My options were either this or the USC Hotel at $400+ a night, and although obviously not as close a walk, I'm more than happy to save $1000 bucks and walk a bit.
Private Parking is available at the units, which is essential as LA parking is so difficult everywhere. Jacob has also thought of all the important little touches throughout, which you'll spot as you stay there. Highly recommended!
Also, if you're looking for a good breakfast place on the walk to USC, give Seree's Coffee Shop a try! It's awesome and well-priced, but not at all what you'd expect. Great Thai-Chinese gentlemen runs the place and it's just a great home...
