I'm from San Diego and I was visiting some friends in LA that had highly recommended Modani Furniture. I was very impressed with their selection of beautiful furniture and moderate pricing considering the design. I didn't make a decision right away but I knew I would be visiting their online store. I must've looked for a month for a TV stand I wanted and by far Modani had the perfect one so I went ahead and placed my order that included a fee of $150 more or less to deliver to San Diego which they had confirmed was possible but only curbside which I thought was lame but I like the piece so much and figured it was due to the distance. I made the purchase early December and received an auto email confirmation my order had been received. A week went by and I hadn't received a delivery date for curbside delivery so I emailed and emailed again the second week without a response. At the end of the second week I decided to call the store I visited in LA where Alex apologized and said it wasn't normal for this to happen. He assured me he would follow up. The following Monday I reached out because still I hadn't heard or received an email. I called Alex again and he promised me a Friday deliver with a personal email from him with confirmation. It never came. Thursday night I called the store and spoke to Alana. By this point I was less than happy and decided to vent my frustrations and finally told Alana that I just wanted a credit back for the charge. I was dumbfounded by her response: what's your card number?
I gave her my information and was told the charge would be credited back. I am in complete disbelief of how this transaction went down. No company should respond to a customer this way. I'm completely disappointed of how I was treated, my lost time, and how arrogant this company came off. I would not shop here ever again and I felt the need to share with others.
1/02/19 Update I had to call because i hadn't received my credit back. I finally got to speak with the Manager James. He swears an employee of the store was standing next to him when two voicemails were left. I did confirm I received a missed call from Mondani but no messages. He asked me if I would like to furniture delivered and I said no. He asked me for my credit card information, again. A few hours later i get an email saying my furniture is ready to be delivered. Read moreUPDATED 11/8/2019. I’m not sure if it was due to our prior negative review, but a representative from Modani furniture did reach out to me this week. At first she offered to send out the hardware and to complete assembly of our sofa, which I had already done on my own. I asked for a $100 refund for the inconvenience and aggravation. Instead she offered 10% off the purchase price which was over double what I asked for. We are still leery of using Modani in the future but their ownership of this issue is significant toward earning our trust and loyalty. More companies offering products and services to consumers should follow this example.
ORIGINAL REVIEW Do not trust this company. We very much like to sofa we purchased but the customer service at Modani is an absolute joke. When we found a sofa we wanted we went in to the L.A. showroom. Alice was friendly but unclear as to the availability of the sofa we wanted. After several days of me calling I was finally told that they did have the item in the warehouse, but that it was a return and had a spot of minor damage. In fact the damage was minor and I agreed to go ahead with the purchase of the sofa with a 5% discount. The delivery company was completely inflexible and discourteous during scheduling. Then when the sofa arrived the hardware to secure the feet onto the bottom of the sofa was missing and the delivery person offered no solution except to call customer service. My wife had to take a day off work because of the inflexible delivery schedule, she sat at home all day waiting for the delivery company to show up at the end of the day. When they did finally show up they did not have to hardware to secure the feet to the sofa, so we could not even use the sofa that day. I was told the next day that I would be receiving an expedited follow up from customer service to rectify the situation. That was 10 days ago, and I have not heard from them at all. I sent an email to both the sales rep and customer service email addresses I was given, but no response. Read moreI recommend that you reconsider purchasing anything from Modani as it is one that works to get the sale, but fails to deliver on the promise. The sales team, the home office, and the delivery company Qualex do not talk to each other, throw each other under the bus when something goes wrong and you are on your own after you pay. We ordered a sofa, two chairs, two side tables, and a coffee table. When the items finally arrived, the side tables were two different color, and the two chairs were the wrong color. We let the delivery team know, and they said that is not their problem and left. We called the home office and they said that is not their problem and that their is a 20% restocking fee regardless. We called the person who sold us the furniture and is the stores sales manager, Jose Heredia, with the issues, and he would never answer the phone. I ended up taking the two tables to the store and he said that there is nothing that he could do. After showing him what we ordered with the chairs (the chairs we wanted were on display), he accepted fault, and said that he would make the changes and put the new order in. It has been 5 weeks now and when we call the dispatch and the home office, no one knows anything about the order, and they refuse to talk to each other. This organization is missing leadership that understand customer service. I would not step in to that store to get anything even if it was free. Think twice before buying anything from them. If you do, just take the floor sample as you know what you are getting and don't have to deal with their inner structure. Never seen such an unorganized company. I almost want to guarantee that all of their 4 or 5 star reviews are internal.
After putting the review, I got a call from Jose saying that he is going to call me back by the end of the day to correct the issue. It is the next day, and I am still waiting. Too many promises, but very little delivery. If you check their reviews, all of the 1's are around customer service after the sales is made or delivering what you bought in a timely manner.
Stay far away from this company....
