Van Nuys / Sherman Oaks Aquatic Center — Local services in Los Angeles

I have been attending this pool for the past three months. During the first two months, everything was great. I specifically go there to practice diving. However, over the past month, some confusing restrictions have been introduced, and I don’t understand the reasons behind them. About three weeks ago, I was told that diving was only allowed between 12 PM and 2 PM. After that, on several occasions, I arrived only to find out that new, unannounced rules had been put in place. For example, sometimes I’m told that the diving area is closed without any visible reason or explanation. Initially, I could dive until 6 PM, then it was restricted to 2 PM, and now, even within the allowed hours, I often find out on arrival that diving is not permitted. In many cases, I’m advised to speak to the manager, who seems to make up these rules on the spot. There is no way to know these rules in advance, and if I had known that diving wasn’t allowed, I wouldn’t have wasted my time traveling there. The pool would be great- if it ever werent packed. I've tried to go there 4 different times, on different days. Only once did they not have some kind of team event going on there, leaving about 2 lanes free for free swimming, and they always have multiple people in the lane. I checked the schedule so I could go when there arent any organised practices. No dice. I even tried calling and finding out when is a good time to swim when there arent events. They told me about 1 hour before closing. So I show up 30 minutes before closing, and sure enough there is a swim team taking up almost every lane, the few remaining lanes packed with swimmers.

The pool is clean and well heated, but if you are going to just swim some laps, avoid it, unless you want to share a lane with multiple other people.

They need to either update their schedule to accurately reflect when there are scheduled activities, or they need to set aside a time solely for free/lap swim so...

Called to register my kids for the tiny tots swim lessons spoke with Chelsea was advised class was full and if I had any questions I can speak with a manager. Waited 15 minutes to speak with Stefani the manager was absolutely of no help.... She advised I speak with a supervisor after I waited another 10 minutes they hung up on me and when I called back Chelsea picked up the phone and said she was a supervisor now... and that there is nothing she can do and I cant even register on the wait list. What frustrates me is how is there only 4 slots for this huge community. Completely unreasonable and their whole staff is rude and disrespectful. Stay...
