My family comes here all the time dating back to who knows how long. After all these years, they've never disappointed and managed to stay consistent for decades, surviving countless other local grocers that's come and gone. Looking at their track record, I think there's a reason why... It's been a long overdue review so here it is. Here are my top reasons why they get 5 stars:
This place gets BUSY! When a place is busy, it tells me everything I need to know like the fact its going to stay fresh since perishables are cleared and restocked. If you want to avoid the crazy rush, then I suggest coming in on the weekdays before the lunch hour, otherwise it can get chaotic.
They maintain and keep the PRODUCE FRESH. I don't ever recall having any issues with anything rotting on me. If you're looking for a bargain, you can always rely on the DAILY FRUIT SALES outside the front of the store. I've seen some crazy deals you wouldn't believe could happen but somehow they do it.
They also have FRESH MEATS. Everytime I stop by I see their staff packing them daily which is very assuring. The turnover rate must be high which is probably why they can maintain its freshness. That's what you want to see in the meats section.
Their store is FULLY STAFFED which is a good sign because you can always find someone to help you out. They may not speak perfect english or even Khmer but there is good intent behind it.
I don't know how they do it but, their shelves are always FULLY STOCKED and I rarely find myself having to make an extra stop at a different store to pick something else up.
They're LOCAL, CAMBODIAN OWNED, and FAMILY OPERATED. I also think it's second generation. I'm all for supporting local businesses.
FREEBIES. Spend a certain amount and they'll throw in a freebie. How nice is it to come home and find an extra bottle of fish sauce :)
It's CLEAN. If you go in early or before they close, they do a pretty good job cleaning the place up.
To summarize, Bangkok Market is as reliable and consistent as it gets. From the glorious days of the Clinton era, post 9/11, housing crisis recession, blizzards, to the pandemic, it doesn't matter. You can expect them to be there to open up shop. And seeing that they've transitioned to a second generation of business, I don't see this changing anytime soon.
In addition, when I go in there's so much life and energy. The owner knows everyone. If you're new to the area, introduce yourself and they'll welcome you to the neighborhood.
Bangkok Market is...
Read moreThis was my go to store when I needed something but today I’m not going there again. They had pork belly out in the open thats all dried up and has flies on them. Its not even packaged and also i bought lemon grass and there were 2 bins. One of them has more stalks in the bunch that says $1.99 and the other have only 4 stalks in the bunch that says $1.00. I grab the $1 since I don’t use it much and she rang it up for $1.99. I told her the sign says $1 there is a different one that says $1.99. She was arguing with me that it is $1.99 and the other worker went over there and tore off the sign that $1.00. I could care less how much it cost but do not try to argue with me or be rude with me when your putting up a different sign. Also management need to train them how to have good customer service and...
Read morePrecursor: Half Chinese half Indian and have been around the world shopping. The simply magnificent orchestrion of service puts Excellent far to low in description. We bobbled and dropped 2 bottles that broke and within 10 seconds as I turned around a young gentleman was already cleaning and the check out girl ran and brought back the items damaged. Completely apologizing profusely. I felt terrible for being a part of the accident but left knowing I will always shop here when I'm in the area. Decent selection of what most people are interested in getting. Fresh vegetables! Great people and a worthwhile visit in...
