I've been antiquing since I was around 10-12 years old (I'm 32 now) and Atomic Antiques is hands down the best-curated antique mall in the Madison area, if not the best-curated in southern Wisconsin in general. I have to give a special shout out to the cheekily-named vendor LSD: I can [and have] spent hours being completely transfixed by their outstanding collection of vintage art, graphic design and transgressive media/culture books. Their space is roughly near the center of the store, by the way: highly recommended! I was initially kind of bummed out when Odana Antiques closed down; they were one a few different entities who later came together to form Atomic Antiques (from what I understand). However, their new location, and especially presentation, are a vast improvement over the previous location. And if you have a thing for twentieth-century [re-]furnishings, this is the place to be: you will immediately be bombarded with inspiration. I also like how none of the vendors try too hard to cater to younger consumers by stockpiling modern-day "collectible" junk (e.g. Funco Pops) or leaning too heavily in current fandom trends (e.g. Marvel, Star Wars, etc.): there's a high level of quality control at Atomic Antiques and it's very much appreciated. My only complaint is walking around can feel a bit cramped at times; I'm a large guy so I have to watch my step when rounding some corners. That said, this is common for antique malls and I've definitely experienced worse. If you want to try an antique mall that isn't obviously aging, moldy and/or falling apart (as most sadly often are in southern Wisconsin), Atomic Antiques is a rare and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor an establishment that claims they like feedback they sure donāt like to show it. Iāve been planning to go place for a few months. Itās not near me, but I enjoy and taking in the Dane County area. There are a couple good antique stores in Dane County that have reasonably priced items, and I do mean reasonable for what they are so yes, there will be some pricey items, but they are worth what they are asking. This one does not fall into that. Definitely feels like a classic West side/Middleton store, a bit hoity-toity and pretentious and the prices certainly reflect that. The in person staff experience was okay, nothing to rave about. I left these comment on their instagram page where I had been getting ads but they didnāt last long there. I donāt recommend going here for an enjoyable time or much of a shopping/antiquing experience. The east side of Madison has more reasonable and better staffed establishments. Or even some vintage specialty stores near...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFantastic Finds/ Mid century specialties/ Great staff- GIANT selection. I was introduced to Atomic Antiques by a friend. Being very experienced with antique shops I can say with certainty that this is one of the best. The items and booths are well - curated- not dusty overpriced items, but clean, thoughtfully displayed quality, and in some cases rare finds. Furniture, collectibles, clothing - everything you could want. I was looking for an ā80s concert shirt - which I found at one vendor- and was hoping to maybe find a small mid- century side table. As it turns out I found a beautiful unique coffee table. The staff are friendly and professional- they let me take a tape measure ( they have many )to my car to ensure a fit, and they let me pick it up the next day. They have great loading dock in the back. They even offer a discount for cash and check. Give this store a try-...
