Le Tigre Lounge — Restaurant in Madison

Le Tigre is a very unique bar. Its worth checking out if you've never been there. That said, there are more rules at this bar than any I've ever seen. You cant talk loud and you can't swear - I'm not kidding.

Some friends and I stopped here last New Years eve. It was 11pm so naturally we all had a little buzz going. We were happy, it was New Years Eve and we were celebrating and having a good time. Well, we must have been having too good of a time because the bartender literally shushed us.....at 11:30pm....on New Year's Eve. Shushed us and then told us to use our "inside voices". I mean, come on dude, I haven't heard "inside voices" since grade school. I've been here several times and usually its fine, but any grown man bartender who shushes me and tells me to use my inside voice is going to lose the majority of my business.

This place is special. Usually when people take me to dive bars I'm left unsatisfied. It's nice to drink in a hole in the wall place but it still has to put forward some effort to quality.

Le Tigre may or may not be a dive, but it's got exactly what I want from one. It's warm, cozy, and you just want to settle in and spend the whole night there. And then you think about coming there all the time.

It will have to suffice to say that the decor is very original, and taking it all in provides a fun that lasts, starts conversations, and ameliorates awkward silences. It feels like the owner really put a lot of love and care into this small out of the way back, and I flip for that.

I was surprised by this place. Based on name I imagined it was a Tejano bar with dancing but it is just a super chill neighborhood bar. Tigers are everywhere 🐯 (prolly why the name). There were a few small tables with a jukebox playing old school music. We sat at the bar and bar tender came pretty quick and checked on us a few times. Old Fashioneds were pretty good and came quick. Overall we really liked this place and will come back.
