Cathedral of St. Bernard - Diocese of Madison — Local services in Madison

This is a lovely stone church on Madison's near east side, built a bit more than 100 years ago. It has an amazing collection of pews made from solid black walnut! It also features a 1969 2-manuals Pipe Organ made by Tellers. The acoustics of the interior are excellent, and it was the venue for a concert by the University of Wisconsin Choral Union performing Missa Brevis by Zoltán Kodály in the 1990s, to an organ accompaniment. It is a real joy that Madison still has a few stone churches reminiscent of cathedrals, especially since the diocesan seat at St Raphael was destroyed by fire. I recently attended the funeral of a 92 year old cousin, and the organ was played - beautifully. For those interested in such details, here's the organ as I understand it:

I am a roman catholic. Not all of my family is nor are they comfortable being in a church. For a religion where we are supposed to practice self sacrifice and acceptance of others I find both St Bernards and IHM lacking. Which is a dissapointment as i attended both these schools when I was a child. I held a greater respect for these establishments than I should have.
