Mounds Pet Food Warehouse — Local services in Madison

I really like Mounds for the products they have However, the staff leave a little to be desired. I pulled into the parking lot at Mounds on Stoughton Road tonight during the snow storm just minutes before 6pm ... not knowing when they close. I walked up to the door and the cashier literally saw me coming and RAN to lock it on me. I looked at my phone and the time was 6:00pm. OK ... fine ... you are closed and I didn't know your hours. I am not mad about that. But AT least have the decency to open the door and say, "Sorry, we are closed - come back tomorrow.'" I find that EXTREMELY rude. Get some decent staff with manners. She was obviously assuming I would argue with her .... bad assumption. I would have so much appreciated and respected her simply communicating with me. If you don't know someone's business hours and you approach the door and you see them RUN to lock it on you, it could easily be misinterpreted. Newsflash to the Kid at the counter - I was NOT trying to rob you! You have a lot to learn ... Karma ... it...

I stopped at this location yesterday (10/29/2018) to pick up Stella & Chewy's . Found exactly what I needed, but noticed the freezer was quiet empty. When checking out I inquired on whether this was a supply problem or busy over the weekend and waiting for a shipment. The clerk assisting me did not know, but graciously said she could check. She looked over to the other checkouts and noticed her manager, asked her if she could come over when she was finished, the manager hesitantly said "yes". When she did come over I asked her what I stated to the clerk and she stated " She did not know, but could check and said there was a delivery coming the next day" and walked out the door. Okay.... poor customer service. Maybe next time give a time-frame in which you could check. Maybe take my number if you cannot do the checking right...

This place has a great variety of food and toys, and it's home to some of my cats favorite treats.

I'd say the pricing is about average, for more conventionally available cat foods I see the price is about the same as at any other pet store, and the Mounds specific brands are about on par for price.

It has a somewhat confusing layout, and the food section is reminiscent of a Costco. That being said I can't imagine an easier way to lay out all of the food varieties so just keep that in mind.

As for the staff every time I've gone they've been super friendly and helpful. Overall it's a good place if you want to try a variety of foods, or you're looking for a specific type of diet. They've also got a ton of cat trees and toys that I haven't seen at any other store so...
