The service here was horrible. We arrived at this location at 10:30 PM after a long drive. When we got there, my wife went in to check-in and I waited in the car. While waiting I noticed that they had already charged my card for the cost and it was taking quite some time, so I went in to see why it was taking so long and to make sure she was not paying for it again. When I got in there, she was very frustrated because the person behind the "glassed in" counter had tried to charge her for 2 rooms. She showed him that her reservation was only for one room and explained that we had another reservation for 4 days after that, but he insisted that we had 2 reservations that night and he had been holding both of them for us. Eventually he agreed to cancel one room, but he still tried to charge a $30 cancellation fee for the second room. She told him that their system was clearly in error and she would not be bullied into paying for something that was not her fault as she had proof of her reservation for only one room. When I arrived he had finally conceded to only charge her for what we had reserved, but he had charged her card despite having already charged my card. I got up to speed on what had happened and he still insisted that we had two reservations, but he claimed that he was being nice by cancelling one of them. After some discussion, he said he would credit my card. I asked for a receipt for that credit and he said the credit will show up in 2-3 days. I got a little frustrated by that (due in part to our experience so far) and couldn't understand why he wouldn't provide me a receipt right then. With that, he just got mad and said he was going to cancel our room and we can try and find one elsewhere. Turns out that there was some sort of event happening in that area and none of the hotels around there had any openings. We ended up driving 50 more minutes to find a hotel with openings.
As for the room and facilities, I cannot make much comment. They could be fine, but I never got a chance to find out. However, the front desk area smelled poorly and was not appealing at all.
To add to our sketchy experience, I also had a woman come up to me in my car while I was waiting for my wife to check in and she asked to use my phone. I had heard of people stealing phones that way so I suggested she go in and ask at the desk. I couldn't really see well, but it appeared that she went in and stood there waiting behind my wife who I could not see. She was just kind of looking over towards where my wife would be which made me a bit nervous that she would try something and is also part of the reason I went in eventually. Apparently she had also asked my wife to use her phone as well. My wife (being the nice and trusting person that she is) told her sure, but not until after she figured out what was going on because she was a bit distracted at that moment. Apparently, the front desk guy ignored the lady too despite his ability to hear the exchange. When I went in, the lady was still waiting, but left soon after I went in. I do not know if she was trying to pull something or not and I feel a little bad if she truly needed a phone, but her manner (despite being polite) made me cautious, and the fact that she left made me feel like maybe she didn't really need it.
Overall the experience was the worst my wife and I have ever had (despite some "interesting" experiences) and I will never book a stay in this hotel. There is a reason it is lower cost than others in the area.
I will say the Hilton a block or two away had excellent service. They were very nice and polite when we came in looking for a room. They apologized and told us that they did not have any openings and told us about the cause being events going on. They then not only looked online for the nearest Hilton that had openings and offered to book it for us, they also offered us free bottled water and a place to sit down when we wanted to explore our options to find other hotels. Excellent and kind service that was much...
Read moreThis hotel exceeded my expectations. My fiance and I stayed at The AmericInn for 2 nights before catching our flight out of Wisconsin. We had never stayed at this location and we're excited to try it out. The man who checked us in to the hotel was very helpful and kind. At checkin we were pleasantly surprised to find out the rate was less then we were quoted on the phone. We had booked a room with a king size bed for the standard rate. When we got to our room once again we were very surprised. The room was very clean and updated. The beddings and linens were all clean. The room even smelled good, unlike some of the other hotels in and around Madison. After turning on the TV we noticed that the screen was very dark and we were unable to adjust the brightness. We called the front desk to ash if he knew how to fix it. He was also unsure how to adjust the brightness so he switched us to a different room. The 2nd room was just as clean as the first. After getting a good night sleep my fiance and I woke up early to enjoy the complimentary continental breakfast that was offered with our stay. We were both happy to see the wide variety of breakfast options that the hotel had to offer. My fiance went out to our vehicle while I started making our plates. As I was making our plates a female staff member came into the breakfast room and asked if I was staying at the hotel. I told her what room we were staying in and she responded by saying that no one was in that room and she needed to see my ID. I told her I would have to go back to the room to grab my ID since I didn't think I would need my identification at 6am for breakfast. By this time my fiance was coming into the breakfast room and heard what was going on. He informed the lady that I was staying with him and again told her our room number. The lady then asked him, "She's with you?" I was very frustrated and upset and this point. Later on in the evening after my fiance and I returned to the hotel from getting our dinner the man who checked us in the hotel stopped and talked to us. He informed my fiance and I that the hotel has a lot of people that aren't staying at the hotel sneak in and eating the continental breakfast. People that come from other hotels or people that come in from off the streets. The lady that had questioned me earlier that day hadn't seen me checking in or at any other time during our stay so she assumed I was another person trying to sneak in and get a free meal. He apologized for her attitude towards me. At this point I understood where she was coming from however I believe there was a better way to handle the situation or to ask me if I had a room at their establishment. Despite the breakfast incident my fiance and I had a great stay at this hotel and will definitely be coming back. We are already looking forward to sleeping in the beds again because they...
Read moreI have enjoyed the other Americann on the West side a number of times. My mom stays there every time she comes and visits us. They have always been nice and they offer coffee and they have free daily beer tastings.
I was in need of a hotel today and I saw that Eastside American inn was $10 cheaper. I walked in and instead of a glorious nice lobby with free hot coffee, water, TVs, comfortableness chairs, etc. There's just a small room with short ceilings and bullet proof glass infront of counter. Anyway, I told the lady there wanted to check in. There was a language barrier but she was saying something about having to come back after 11:00 because the checkout and the check-in is normally 3:00 p.m. She said that they charge $30 for early check-in.
Then after 11:00 a.m. I figured it would not hurt to ask if they could call me when the room is ready in case it is ready earlier. I've never had an issue checking in to a hotel earlier in the day and I didn't want to pay an extra $30. I figured I could leave my phone number and that they could call me if it was ready. I told them that I'd really appreciate it and that I would give them a nice review.
At first I asked the lady if they had water or coffee like the other Americaninn and she said why are you here in a negative and accusatory manner and then she asked me if I was going to pay $30. I tried to explain that I understood that the room might not be ready yet, but I was wondering if I could leave my number and they could call me if it was ready. I told him I am not had this issue with other hotels and that the other Americainn town was offering me for free coffee and I wouldn't mind some coffee. The lady was rude and said that it is always $30 and they never let anybody check in before 3:00 p.m. without paying $30.
I walked away for a second and then I came back and asked him if they had a complaint number and I ask for the woman's nam. She would not give me her name she said there wasn't a complaint system but that she could call the manager. I said Yes please. I would like to talk to him. Then she spoke another language for a while on the phone and told me that he said that if I don't pay $30 or leave right then that they were going to call the police on me. They wouldn't even let me sit in the lobby. I have never experienced this kind of rudeness at a hotel. Normally people who work at hotels are nice, courteous, and respectful. What is wrong with the management of this hotel people? Why are...
