The Century House — Local services in Madison

I agree with other reviews that they sell beautiful furniture. Unlike other reviews, however, our experience with customer service has been awful. We paid over $3K for a storage bed that developed a squeaking problem within the first month. They (i.e. the manager Jacob) made numerous attempts at fixing the issue but the noise kept coming back after each fix. At their most recent visit they changed their tune and tried to distance themselves from any responsibility. They said, and I pretty much quote, that: (i) the noise seems like a different problem and therefore is out of warranty (the noise is identical to before), (ii) the bed has been moved (it was them who had moved it, with a $150 fee), (iii) other people besides me had slept on it (yes they said this), (iv) the way I was generating the noise was improper use of the bed (I was pushing on the bed with my knee, just to demonstrate), (v) the bed has moving parts therefore some noise is to be expected (yes they said this as well).

They added that they're still, and I quote, "willing to take a look at it". When I asked them to leave my house as response, they acted surprised and claimed I was refusing their offer for help.

I caution all shoppers to be aware of the risk they'd be taking if they choose to buy a substantial item from this store. The above is only a fraction of the issues I've had with them; others include damaged walls during installation, and a general tendency to be evasive whenever they are made aware...

We've had great experiences at Century House. While it can take time to get a piece (many are built to order and from places like the Netherlands), the furniture is very high quality. They are pretty hands-off, which I appreciate. They greet you and tell you to let them know if they have questions and pretty much leave you alone until you ask. It makes it nice to browse in peace. When you're ready for help, their staff is fully on board. For our most recent purchase, we were in the living room/office store. Kathy was excellent in showing the many options and pricing out several pieces. She was patient in helping us find new options when our first idea was above budget and always gave updates on when our furniture would arrive (chairs came early, sofa was delayed, but not as delayed as initially projected). We are super happy with the two lounge chairs (on sale) and sofa (which offered a credit toward a future purchase of another Stressless-e product and we chose adjustable side tables). I couldn’t be more impressed with my experiences at The Century House. From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming, knowledgeable, and eager to help without being pushy. Darin and Kathy have gone above and beyond to help add the perfect additions to my new home. I purchased a bedroom set, benches, chairs, sofa, coat rack, a sectional, and wall decor. The prices here are definitely higher than your traditional furniture store, but they back it up with the outstanding quality of furniture, the delivery team handles everything with care, ensuring the items arrive in pristine condition.(They even give you accurate arrival times) and lastly the sales staff is unmatched and committed to ensuring you leave with the correct furniture for you home.

As a business owner myself it is clear to me that customers service is a top priority for the team at the Century house, and I have no reason to shop anywhere else in the future. I look forward to working with Darin for years to come. Thank you for everything guys!...
