Duck Donuts — Restaurant in Shorewood Hills

Our whole family loved the food (we got a few breakfast sandwiches and a variety of donuts). However, the service and wait time was absolutely terrible! When we got to the register we saw a sign saying the register was closed. One worker said it was because they were understaffed. We decided to wait because there was also a line at the ordering kiosk (which was out of paper and causing customers to be frustrated). Once we finally ordered, we waited about 20 minutes for our food. While we waited we saw multiple people with incorrect orders and someone leave without their food because it was taking so long. Once our number was called, they gave us our donuts but not breakfast sandwiches. We waited about 10 minutes longer. By now our donuts weren’t warm and kids were impatient. You could tell the staff was frustrated and overwhelmed. Despite the frustrating service, we still recommend the quality of the food to our older daughter. She went today and had a terrible experience too. She said they had a long wait and then the quality of food wasn’t what she expected. Their donuts were hot enough that the frosting all fell off and got all over the box. She said the worker said, “well those aren’t the worst I’ve ever made” and handed them to her. She said the staff seemed annoyed. The idea of fresh made donuts is great but clearly not practical if the wait time is going to be that long, causing the staff and customers so much frustration. Very disappointing because the donuts taste great! Just not sure...

Went in with high expectations. Ordered a two pack of donuts and a dozen donuts plus two drinks. We were the only customers in the store on a Friday afternoon. 5 employees working. 20+ minutes later we were still waiting and it was obvious our order wasn’t very close to completion when my daughter pointed out they were only preparing the order for the dozen but the order for two were the first two in the dozen box. I inquired with the person preparing the order as well as asking how much longer. He apologized for the delay and explained that another worker was preparing a catering order. When I asked a second time about the preparation of our order he looked closely at the order and said “oh I see, you ordered 13 doughnuts. I explained I ordered 2 and 12 but the two were in the box for 12. Another worker got involved and tried to explain to the person preparing our order that 2 doughnuts plus 12 doughnuts means a total of 16 doughnuts. By now we’ve been there a half hour and I’m going to be late for an appointment with my order yet not complete and so I asked for a refund. Two workers couldn’t figure out how to work the register to prepare a refund and called the manager/owner to help. He was very kind and understanding. He apologized and gave the refund as well as insist we take the donuts that had already been prepared. Although I didn’t get any doughnuts the experience sure left a bad taste in my mouth and I can’t imagine any of the three of...

Super cute shop, friendly staff. But the donuts are mid at best. The whole idea of a warm donut seems great, but it's not great in practice. The donuts are just a greasy, wet mess. The frosting needs time to set up. Their method of dipping each donut as they are ordered means that your donuts will be stuck to the box if you allow them to cool/set up in the box. If you dive in straightaway, they're too soft to pick up. The frosting also gets all over the other donuts in the box. If you get a drizzle on top of your icing, it will be a sloppy mess because again, the icing should have been given time to set up before adding another layer. They don't have any donuts pre-made to look at or purchase if you're in a rush. So you walk in and get handed a huge menu, or order on a screen, which is kind of overwhelming. Also, raised donuts are way better in my opinion, and they only offer cake donuts. I would like these donuts a lot more if they were allowed to cool and set up properly, and could be viewed before purchasing. Very expensive too! $25/dozen...
