I had been with this facility for over ten years when it was Hampshire Self Storage. Their facility and customer service were exemplary. One day I showed up and found out it was bought out by Extra Space storage and I've had problems every since. The rate went up immediately when they took over, expected, but then went up again. Extra Space storage raises its rates every nine months. I am a cash customer, and went to pay on a Sunday and found the office closed, under Hampshire the facility was open seven days a week. I have paid on time every month since they took over, asked them to waive the fee because they were closed. They were positively rude! No they didn't have to do it, but for a loyal customer it would have gone a long way. So now I have the new raised rate, late fee and oh yeah, its almost nine months again so I expect a rate hike too. I did my best to empty it left a frame and pieces of wood. I had to leave on a business trip so couldnât get there to finish. I called the 4th day and they told me that I had to pay the 4 additional days but if I had gone the day before they could have waived it. When I spoke to âJoeâ the manager to request a waiver (over 1 day!), he made reference to the facility not being a dumping site, offending me and making me as if I was less of a human and refused to waive it AND even added an additional day bc I was out of town on a business trip and couldnât make it until that evening. I have always had a good experience there and was shocked but I guess since I was turning in a unit and not renting one, I wasnât worth the customer service experience anymore. I give them and her 5 stars; she called to welcome me when I set it up online, called again to give me the information to get a 20% discount on a truck rental and called when, after a few days Id forgotten to put a lock on my locker, to remind do me to get one. Why I gave it 1 stars was because Anna was instructed to do that "insurance isn't included B.S." and up-sell me. I abreed to one orice onljne and when I got there is was now considrrably more. However much it was, it didn't matter because it was not happening. Enterprise Car Rental pulled the same B.S. and when I freaked out and held my own they apologized and upgraded me for free. Well, Anna eventually (pretty quickly) said I was right that I don't have to take the insurance and that I could sign a waiver, which I did.
