This is a really good school if you’re all about your academics. I’ve had my good times and my bad times here at MCC. Overall on the academic side of MCC I appreciate all of the hard work that most of my professors have done. There are professors here that definitely need to be more qualified with what they are teaching as it has affected my grades when I’ve taken their courses. I am an Honor student here at MCC with a GPA of 3.30 and have never once had an issue with organization skills until my 2019 spring semester. A couple of the professors have been unorganized, no syllabus and sometimes they have other priorities when they have to teach a class in other words they put another professor in place when they have to go to another job. Although these were a couple of issues within my time here at MCC I enjoyed the experience of learning new knowledge for my future career. I really liked a lot of my professors but a couple of them have been a little rough. If you communicate with your professors about your issues that you’re having it really helps and shows that you’re determined to do your work and it shows you care about your work as well. Environment wise I’d have to say it’s not healthy (mentally/physically) and or good for many people. There have been students who have left garbage all over the place and don’t clean up after themselves which leads to maintenance having to clean it all up. With my time here I have helped maintenance clean up other people’s messes so they don’t have to worry about it as much. Also the amount of vaping, drug use, and underage drinking in the lounge is unacceptable and nothing has been done to take care of this issue except shutting the lounge down. I feel as if this does nothing but illustrates that they can go elsewhere within the college and do these things. An authority figure should really take this into consideration and do something about this because it affects others who have nothing to do with these people and it ruins people’s Health. You can smell weed from a mile away and if people have asthma or a health condition this could affect them physically. I do not appreciate this at all and I wish something was done about it. The other big issue environmentally is the fact that the main cafeteria can get very loud and some students have no manners and do not respect others around them. If they are asked to quiet down they do the opposite It has gotten to the point where a lot of people have complained and yet nothing is done to prevent this from happening again. The college needs to have some control over what students do and take action on these issues. I wish that there could be some changes here and I hope for the best for everyone at MCC. Overall it is a good school for your academics but is definitely not a mentally healthy place environmentally. Even if you try to get away and go somewhere else for privacy somehow drama follows behind you. A Tip would be after your classes go home if you can or go to the back of the library in the quiet study room. I wish everyone the best of luck here at MCC and hope that...
Read moreI am currently trying to transfer to this school and I rarely write reviews. The academic advising office is AWFUL! The first time I went into the office, I spoke with a counselor that informed me of a degree path in the field I am interested in, however she had no information on the program and said I have to do the research and figure out if I qualify for this degree path. WHAT? That is her job, not mine. So I go in to speak with another counselor a couple weeks later and I am told about another program because I did my research and I did not qualify for the first program. However, this other degree is not what I want it to be, but it allows me to be accepted into UCONN. Luckily, I did my own research and found out that I didn't qualify for this degree path either. So I would have done 2 years of school in another field for absolutely no reason. So next, I called the advising office to ask if there was another adviser that I could speak with. The office was currently having walk in appointments, so if I came into the office, I would be able to speak with him. I show up, he's not there. Okay, no big deal. I called again to schedule an appointment for Monday, it was Thursday at the time. So on Monday I showed up, he had to leave, so without calling me they rescheduled my appointment with one of the ladies I already spoke with. Even though I specifically asked to speak with him and explained what had happened already. If I would have been given a call and had been asked to reschedule, no big deal. So I asked if he was going to be there the next day for walk ins, the secretary says yes. Now I already don't trust this office. So this brings us to today, I called ahead because this office is incredibly unreliable. The secretary confirms the counselor will be there between 1-4. I show up 15 mins later, he has a meeting to go too. That will take at least an hour. What?! Classes start in less than a month and I may need to change them around again. Most class are already full. I will be lucky to get a class that I actually want to take because this office jerks around their students. I have wasted my time and gas going back and forth because the office staff can't get it together. And the reason I haven't mentioned names is because the counselor that I want to speak with hasn't done anything wrong. It is the office staff that has a HUGE communication issue. I plan to take one semester here because I have to and be done and just transfer to UCONN in the fall. I do not need this aggravation and I certainly do not need to be wasting my time and money on this...
Read moreI have been attending MCC for about a year now. The school is always clean and the staff is always friendly and there is plenty of relaxing seating arrangements through out the school to provide good study spots. All of my teachers have been excellent. They were all willing to work one on one with students and took pride in teaching. Of course with all schools you will find an occasional professor who isn't passionate and just drones on with monotone lectures. MCC makes it easy to change classes early on in case you do clash with a professor or teaching style. Also, for a community college the grounds are very pleasant to look at. The building structure alone is impressive. Then, most importantly MCC is locally known as good school to employers and other colleges. So in the end, your degree can get you a job or transfer you to a 4 year school without question. It is a great school and learning environment. The one down fall I will admit to is it can be a bit difficult be waited on personally by an admission staff member, they are short staffed and there is always a line. How ever the person below scored them a 0 just for that reason. Ignore what this school has as an overall rating and read into the reviews. You will find this is a great...
