Updated 4.17.2023: After couple years of careful consideration, I decided to return to Extreme Audio for my audio, starter, etc. services, because we both understand each other and are willing to make things right on both sides of the fence. We all make mistakes and as long as we own up to them and are willing to correct them, that's all we need for a good business relationship.
Thank you Rob!
Original Review (2020) I have been doing business with Extreme Audio since 2015 and like anything else, there have been the usual ups and downs. However, today I am prompted to write this review because of the lack of expertise and professionalism experienced upon returning my vehicle after a remote starter installation last month.
After Extreme did the installation of the new remote starter, I realized the car trunk could not remote open and called Extreme to find out why this was the case. Rob told me he had no idea why the trunk cannot open remotely, but I should bring the car in so they can take a look at it. The new key remote has a button to remote open the car trunk, therefore, I was expecting the car trunk to be able to open remotely.
I brought the car in the following day (8/26/2020), and was first told, if my car uses cable to open the trunk, this new remote would not be able to open it remotely. So I told them the car originally came with a key remote that opens the trunk, then I was told by Rob that since my car was made in 2003, the devise installed by Extreme wouldn't be able to open the truck unless it is hardwired, and that it would cost me $75 in addition to the over $380 I spent initially.
This is not the first time I got burnt like this. Extreme Audio sold me a replacement viper key remote (approx $85) for the older starter that I replaced, telling me the old key remote was bad. When the new key remote they sold me wouldn't work, they said the car battery ($180) should be replace, which I did. When it still wouldn't work, they decided to charge me again to troubleshoot and fix the problem. This would run me more than having the entire remote starter replaced, so I had them replaced the entire thing.
These are very friendly people at Extreme, but I expect a certain standard when I am paying for the service......money does not come easily for me!!! Why wasn't I told the facts from the beginning that I would not be able to remote open the trunk because of the vehicle's age or that it has to be hardwired, which would incur an additional cost??? Maybe I would have chosen some other option.
Extreme was always aware that the car trunk can be programmed to remote open, because they have programmed the viper key remote more than once for the original remote starter on the car, and it was able to open the car trunk. They are the only ones to work on my cameras, audio and remote starter. Now whenever I want to open my car trunk, it has to be done manually from inside the car, because that's where the only lever is located.
I love the convenience of being able to remote open my car trunk, so I will pay to have the entire thing replaced again, but this time, NOT BY EXTREME AUDIO.
They also installed the following in my cars over the...
Read moreGO TO THE END OF THIS REVIEW FOR ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF WHY I RECOMMEND EXTREME AUDIO 😊 When I decided to upgrade the factory stereo in my 2006 Miata I had several options. Seeing as we're in the middle of a pandemic I thought this could be a good pandemic project. I could buy what I need on line, save a little money, and try my hand at car stereo installation. I quickly tossed that idea when faced with the complexity of an installation in a very small space, a seemingly unlimited selection of electronics and speakers, little or no technical support and my wife's objections. I rejected the big box stores as NOT too big to fail; I've had bad luck with their journeyman installers on other vehicles. Then I contacted the Mazda dealership in town and asked them if they do sound system installations. The service manager suggested I go to Extreme Audio as that's where they bring their new cars for upgraded components. He was correct. From the moment I got to Extreme Audio I felt comfortable. Rob Lewis, the owner of Extreme Audio (with more than 30 years of installation experience himself) had one of his technicians come out to my Miata to listen to what I had and discuss what I was looking for in a sound system. After reviewing the available options within my budget I settled on an Alpine system with JBL component speakers. My installation was completed in a timely manner and I was able to see photos of the work as it progressed; Rob likes to keep a photo record of his work for reference. I was so happy with the new system that I returned to have an additional speaker installed in the dashboard to improve the sound when I have the top down, which is always! Rob, Shawn, Joe and Joshua treated me as a valued customer and I wouldn't hesitate to refer others to Extreme Audio for their car stereo needs. They are truly professionals. THE NEW STUFF - So, fast forward 3 years and I’m back at Extreme Audio for a radio tune up. I just wasn’t comfortable with the sound. It seemed that the driver’s side speaker was significantly louder than the passenger side and I was intermittently losing about 50% of the sound there as well. I called EA and scheduled an appointment to evaluate my problem. Justin took my system apart and It turned out that I had a bad crossover switch on the passenger side causing the problem. I was in and out in about an hour and happily driving home, radio blaring Kenny Wayne Shepard as balanced as it was when brand new 3 years ago. Thank you Extreme Audio and your knowledgeable and efficient owner and staff, Rob, Justin and Shawn. People keep coming back because music is so important to life. Why trust your sound system to amateurs when the best is...
Read moreThese guys charged me over $10,000 cash to put a stereo in redo my trunk in a 66 LeMans they never secured the subwoofer it was sliding all over the trunk the paneling was literally velcro taped on same thing with the lights everything just came undone and fell apart from day one, they sliced my door and put a piece of black electrical tape over it to hide it, the Bluetooth doesn't work they use two separate set of LED lights so you need two different controls for the front and back of the car you can't take your phone to talk through the Bluetooth it cuts out when you walk to the back of the car, my dome light no longer works all the wiring was ran so tightly to the amp it just ripped the wiring out. The wires to the speakers themselves came off. The paneling was made out of like a cardboard type material that look like a 4-year-old made it. They charged me for two speakers they didn't even put in. They offered me no refund they said they would fix it I don't want those guys going anywhere near my freaking car again. I was going to sue them but it's really hard to find a lawyer to sue someone for something like that and you can't take them to small claims cuz it's over $5000. From day one they showed me pictures of all these classic cars in their shop from their phones but they couldn't show me one picture of any of the actual work that they did. I could go on and on. I'm not the type of person to leave a bad review for anybody but this was just insane! They had the car for over 3 weeks when I got it back it was covered in dust and dirt. They spray painted half of my trunk, the switch for the trunk lights doesn't work he literally wiggled it in front of me and said you're all set. I brought it to other stereo shops they said the amp wasn't even enough for the system that the subs should have had its own separate amp. They never even adjusted the amplifier. DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE! THEY ARE TOTAL FREAKING HACKS AND THIEVES! And Yes you heard me right I did say over $10,000. I wish to God I could send pictures to show you they just like hot glued stuff that just came off what they did paint head fingerprints and stuff on it. Some of the paneling wasn't even attached at all. I know he's going to read this and leave some long reply on how I'm out of my mind and he didn't do any of that don't listen to him save your money. I'm literally going to go to every car so I can this year and leave it the way it is and put a sign in my trunk that says extreme audio did this. I want my...
