I have had multiple unsavory ER/hospital visits here. I went into the ER with concerns of my pilonidal cyst and was prescribed the wrong antibiotics which made me horribly sick with a fever.
For my pre surgery appointment, they wouldn’t let me into the appointment by myself because I’m a minor and I completely understand but my mother has been suffering with her own health issues and I didn’t want to have to drag her into my appointment. Registration let it slide and called my mom for verbal consent but didn’t let me into the actual appointment. I had to call my delirious mother into the hospital where she ended up meeting a nurse and after finally saying where she needed to go, they took her to registration while I was downstairs and wouldn’t let her leave! I had to go back upstairs and grab her to bring her down to my appointment.
Back to my mother, for the past month she’s been experiencing memory loss, incoherence, confusion, and loss of control of bodily functions which were previously to be thought of as symptoms of alzheimer’s. She had fainted in our home about 3 times in the past month. The first time she fell was in the kitchen and it was believed that she hit her head on the fridge. She was taken to the ER and a CT scan was ordered but nothing came of it so she was sent home after it was concluded she was dehydrated. A few weeks later she was using the bathroom and had fell off the toilet in the middle of the night and I’m glad I was awake when it happened. Third time she tried to get up off of the couch and fell. She had a gash on her head and started to throw up and shake and we had to call an ambulance.
In between these falls, we had brought her to the ER and they concluded that all her behavior was because she had a cyst on her arm which was infected and they gave her antibiotics for it which did not help at all. They had ordered a blood and urine test but refused to do a CT scan due to her having one recently. After her third fall, they still believe it’s her cyst that’s causing all of her symptoms. My family was really pushing for an MRI because she has had a brain tumor the past few years and has had 2 surgeries for it already. We wanted to see if it could possibly be that bothering her. It just feels like we’re running in circles at this point.
A few months back, my sister had passed. Before she passed away, she visited this hospital because she was feeling very sick and it was believed to be her pregnancy causing her to not feel well because she didn’t do too well with her last pregnancy. She came to the ER and saw 3 different doctors and they found absolutely nothing and was sent home and later died. Turns out the baby she was pregnant with was dead inside of her and it caused her a blood infection which killed her.
I would say this hospital isn’t the worst but it’s not the best and you would be better off going out of the way to another...
Read moreI am the wife of West Virginia Delegate Larry D Kump and was recently in ICU from 3-4-25 to 3-7-25. I will say the ICU nurses were absolutely FANTASTIC! Including the doctors Scott Cysers and 2 others however Dr. N Erminy Falcon was extremely arrogant and absolutely rude as well as forceful! She even accused me of having an eating disorder because I am extremely thin. I explained to her I have a rare form of anorexia that causes unintentional weight loss and no appetite or hunger and there will not be a cure in my lifetime Including I absolutely HATE losing weight and happy gaining even 1 pound. She told me I have emphysema and once again questioned if I use oxygen at home which AGAIN I stated no and never have. Also no matter what medical info I gave her she absolutely would not listen. I stated I wanted discharged or I would sign myself out because I felt they were damaging my lungs with high flow oxygen which was fine the first couple of days because I needed it however it was pushing mucus down into my lungs and I wasn't able to cough it up. I complained to her and the other doctors and nurses as well as respiratory that the hi flow oxygen was suffocating me and I couldn't breathe with it on and could without it. NO one would listen to me except Scott and the other 2 doctors but I was told it wouldn't be removed. I finally was put on a canulla Thursday morning and coughed up a tremendous amount of mucus and felt better. I started getting out of bed and making sure I coughed everything up. Dr. Falcon was wanting me to stay 4 more days which I refused and she told me she will not be in the following day (Friday) and let's see how I feel. I let her know I am leaving either way and going back to WV to see my team of specialists. Friday morning I felt ok and still weak of course but after giving me meds which all my meds were not given correctly, all of a sudden I felt even worse which I decided I am leaving because I felt I was being made sicker. I was never ever told about any of my labs or that I had pneumonia and only Scott told me which I stated I kept telling everyone I knew I had pneumonia but no one would tell me anything ever! Again the nurses are top notch and 3 physicians but Dr. Falcon needs to actually take time listening to patients instead of being arrogant and high and mighty because I and my husband did not appreciate it. I will be filing a formal complaint regarding my treatment with the CEO and WV Governor Patrick Morrisey who's a personal friend will spearhead these complaints. Patients must be told all labs and treatment including listened to! I'm extremely upset with Dr. Falcon and I hope she can do better. My specialists are furious seeing my labs and I have more labs to do including lung scans to see if my lungs were damaged while on the high flow oxygen for too long. This is NOT okay...
Read moreI had to stay overnight after a neck surgery for observation and my surgeon said I would be discharged the next day. You must be your own advocate at this hospital. I waited over 4 hours after my surgery for a room. My PSA and nurse for my room were really nice and thorough until shift change. After that it went downhill fast. I had to remind the night staff that I was to wear my leg compressions and needed help putting them on. I was to observed for neck swelling which after shift change at 7pm, NO ONE ever took my neck measurements again. No one told me I had to order my own meals. I asked repeatedly for a diet change after I ate supper and breakfast on a clear liquid diet. I broke down and cried due to going almost 2 days without actual food as I was getting sick to my stomach since I hadn't ate anything (and being administered a bunch of meds) until finally a nurse did something more than "I'll send a message". When they offer you meds to beds, make sure it's not on the weekends as there is NO pharmacy open at the hospital to fill these. It took from 12:45 discharge until 3:00pm before I could leave as they couldn't figure out why my pharmacy wasn't getting the scripts! I had to tell the nurse I wanted to talk with the next person above him to get anything done. If I would have left the staff go about their usual ways, my pharmacy would have been closed and I would have went home without meds. It appeared most of the nurses were in their 20's without the experience to follow through with patient care more than what they were taught. No one went above and beyond to help me when there was an issue. It was just "we'll put a message in". I had to advocate for myself and get things done. The nurses didn't even know who was on call for neurosurgery and the provider's phone number! I work with providers and all the staff members have every provider's cell phone number. I do want to say Dr Ghinda was FANTASTIC! She was caring and very kind. I'm am beyond disappointed with Ohio Health's Mansfield location for inpatient care stay after a surgery. After my experience, I see there are many areas that staff needs better understanding of patient care and better...
