Edit - Update 2, I'm docking a star for service. Went on 9/19 early evening for a couple things and cashier asked, as o was in the 20 or less line, if it was 20 items. I informed her it was and she started. Just so it's known - if she said ANYTHING else at that point to me I would have left everything on the conveyor belt and left. I get it and dislike people that abuse it. But that was bad tact. BTW I had 18 items and counted before I went into the U20 line.
Something is slipping with this store service wise between this and the weird situation with baskets. Hope they straighten it out or I can just go to another store.
Prior: I LOVE that this one is by us. And it's a cut above if I'm being honest. But the downside is the checkout line. Never enough open. Could be because of labor but that's usually the hangup.
Update 1: So there's this weird thing here where the baskets are not by the door anymore for you to get them when you shop. You have to hunt them down at the managers station or checkout lines. Maybe there was an issue with basket theft or something but it's slightly annoying. Usually I pop in for a few items and like the basket instead but now just get the carts... which is probably worse because others probably do the same and they end up ha ing to go out for cart returns more. So... I hope they return to making it more convenient for shoppers to just get the basket by the door as they walk in. This is the only Market Basket I've...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWriting an extraordinary review for an ordinary grocery store might seem unusual, but Iāve been challenged by some of my review readers who donāt believe Iām actually the one writing them (and not ChatGPT). So, here's a message to my doubters: crafting a review isn't difficult if you observe and appreciate the place from a different point of view. Iām not just reviewing the grocery store itself - I'm highlighting the effort, community spirit, and hard work of the employees and management. And at Market Basket in Maynard, these elements deserve more than a few hundred words. Considering the Boston heritage, this grocery store already ranks in the top 5%, rivaling even more pretentious chains like Whole Foods. But what truly stands out isnāt just the perfectly ordered and well-positioned products. Itās the dedication of each employee to maintaining this high level of service. I spent some time in the store, observing everything from the produce section to the meat and cheese offerings. Everything is meticulously organized, and it feels like every shelf is hosting its own little welcome parade. The hardworking staff, sometimes in oversized uniforms, are always welcoming and smiling, contributing to the store's inviting atmosphere. Fresh, well-kept produce and a commitment to serving the local community seem to be in the very DNA of this chain and its team. So to my friends who doubted: yes, I wrote this, and yes, even a simple grocery store can inspire a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor the most part, it's what you would expect from a Market Basket (which is great).
But the prepared food section is a bit of a mess. They often don't have ingredients to make the item you want, or there isn't someone there, or they are cleaning up relatively early, or the staff has trouble interpreting your order. It's completely hit or miss if you can actually get something or not, which is annoying if you stop in there for a sandwich. The staff also sometimes doesn't do a good job making the sandwiches. It's completely inconsistent. Sometimes they will put like half the amount of tuna on a tuna sub. Other times they put all the wet ingredients on top so it's a soggy disgusting mess by the time you get home. One time I got home and just looking at my mess of a sandwich made me so nauseous that I didn't end up eating it :(
There are some things I wish they would regularly stock, like beef liver, which I have better luck getting at other Market Baskets.
Lastly, the pricing of this MB is kind of strange. It's probably related to fluctuations in inflation, but some stuff seems very expensive (for Market Basket, I mean). There are a lot of items, especially produce that are somehow much cheaper at the nearby Trader Joes. I've always thought of Market Basket as one of the lowest priced grocery stories but it doesn't seem to be the case, at least...
