My family and I have been going to Maywood Market for decades. That ends today. Last night, I purchased a $12 pre-made sushi roll and when I got home, noticed sesame seeds underneath the fish (it was a California roll wrapped with sushi, and not visible to the naked eye). Due to my sesame seed allergy, I couldn’t eat it and therefore returned with it this morning. The “manager” at register 1 told me I needed to speak with the sushi guy. I did so and told him the situation, all while acknowledging that it was a mistake on my part. He got extremely agitated, dramatically threw the item in the trash, and said “so what do you want?” I said I’d appreciate if he could make me one without seeds. After a few minutes, he did so, and said that I’d have to pay $7.99 because he could not sell the item that I returned. I again apologized, told him that I made a mistake, and that shouldn’t cost me $20. Again, he was extremely agitated and dramatically picked up the item in the trash and threw it down back into the trash. With my options running out, I returned to the “manager” in the front who repeated what the sushi guy said about them not being able to re-sell the item. Again, I said I understood and apologized. When I told her that the sushi guy was extremely nasty and rude, she said he is not an employee of the store. She then called someone else to the front to help me, but before that person came to talk to me, I was granted a refund by said manager. Unfortunately, I did not stay to speak with whomever she called, so I missed an opportunity to share my experience with a “higher-up.” Oh, and she also said that I should have been able to clearly see the sesame seeds, implying that I’m either stupid or a liar. So, there you have it. Decades of loyalty from me and my family down the drain, all because I was met with disdain, anger, confrontation, and insubordination. I hope it was...
Read moreIn business everything is not only about the food but about customer service and how the experience can make a good or bad impact. My coworkers and I organized a 4th of July event. Because we have some vegetarians in our group and some in special diets, we decided to order hero sandwiches to include vegetarians and other with cold cuts. During the order, it was decided to change hero for wraps to make it more appealing to everyone. We also changed some other orders but kept our original half cold cuts and half vegetarian. There is food that is affordable but there are other that you can make at home that they charge too much. In addition, we were charge with $15.00 delivery plus tips. When I asked for a reduction on the charge, I was told by Costas that we were working in a high end place and couldn't lower the charge despite of me explaining that the order came from us not from our employer. At the end we decided to go ahead with the order because we were told the food worth it. But when we got the order we didn't get any vegetarians. I called to make them aware of the situation and all I could get as that it was "my mistake", I messed it up" and basically I was treated like I was complaining for the order only to get money back.. It doesn't matter how good is the food, the people in charge is not up to par. I will never order from them again. For me, it takes only one bad experience to ruin it all and never ordered again from places where no other but excellent service along with good food is available to us. Not being Italian or American also didn't help to...
Read moreMy husband and I relocated to Suffern last year. We happened upon Maywood Market when we first got here. We went one time and then started shopping at other places closer to home. However, we recently returned last week. We weren't disappointed. They have an amazing selection of so many different foods! The prepared food is absolutely delicious. High quality and made to perfection! I am only giving Maywood Market 1star because during our 2 recent visits, some of the staff, in particular, the checkout staff seem to have a bad attitude and are downright rude. We are pleasant people. We don't give anyone any problems and we aren't demanding. I don't understand what is up with the bad attitude! It really makes for a negative shopping experience! The Owner and Management really needs to address this issue with their staff. It's unacceptable. Your staff represent your business and some of them are making you look pretty bad! Looking at other reviews, this appears to be an ongoing issue for this place. That being said, we will be taking our business and $$$ elsewhere! Obviously the owner doesn't care about the customer! Surprised this place is still in business.
By the way, there was a very telling incident about the staff today and how nasty they are. We overheard one staff member talking to another staff member, loudly, in the middle of the store, claiming that the customers are rich and extremely difficult to deal with! So, there you have it! Without the customers, you are out of business and out...
