Oof, gosh. Not necessarily a bad theater, but lower in my rankings of movie theaters I’ve been to. I was not expecting this to be on the same level as some of the bigger chains like AMC or Regal, but I still felt weirdly underwhelmed visiting here. The arcade is just a bunch of games/machines in the corner of the lobby and the lobby itself felt barren.
I was in auditorium 4 watching 28 Years Later and I still adored the movie despite my few issues with the auditorium. The projector screen was dirty. I could notice some smears and stains anytime the screen was really bright. The speakers were also pretty weak. Some of the louder scenes sounded nice, but the quieter stuff was a little hard to understand. This is a film with absolutely killer sound design, so it’s gonna need some powerful speakers to capture that.
There was also no employee to close the door until probably the end of the first act (maybe around 40-50 minutes into a 2 hour film). That last part is more of a nitpick than a real problem tho.
It’s not an awful place to see a movie, especially in a small town like McPherson (I’m staying here for the weekend for business). The lady at the counter was incredibly nice. I still loved 28 Years Later and I’m glad that there’s some presence for films here, but I honestly do think there needs to be some sort of expansion and/or update to the building and auditoriums. Maybe I’m spoiled since the town I’m from has an AMC and two Regal Warrens which have a wide variety of films being shown (classics rereleased and new releases, whether they’re indie films or blockbusters), so take my opinion on the lack of variety of films shown with a grain of salt. My gripes with the auditoriums themselves, however (or at least the one I was in), still stand and should be updated for any other movie goers in McPherson, whether they’re huge film buffs that adore the art form like myself or casual movie goers who want to have...
Read moreThis theater was a large part of my childhood and I remember it being fairly good at minimum average, but compared to a lot of the theaters around the area now it has drastically fallen short. The employees are nice and the popcorn is fresh but the facility itself is small and outdated for the price your charged. Compared to somewhere like chism trail in Newton or Salina theater it's worth the drive until things change at the location.
I think it's mostly the price that was the cause of a lot of the negative concerns after that it was just small things that were annoying such as the size of the screen versus how far back you can be placed in the theater if it's full. The quality of the seats pretty much just knit picking so if they're perhaps to lower their prices to be more adequate to the but they're able to provide for the experience it might be a acceptable option at that point. Hopefully...
Read moreThe McPherson theatre has become the most expensive theatre in the area while at the same time becoming the poorest in quality.
The last straw for us was at a recent show, when they didn't dim the lights when the feature started. I know they can't do pitch dark, but I've been going there for decades and I know that it is at least "dark" once the show starts...until now.
Asked around and others have had the same experience recently--that the lights are too bright during the show all of a sudden. Everyone just thinks they are crazy until someone else mentions it.
Asked the manager today, and his response was that nothing has changed, and basically that everyone is mysteriously imagining it all of a sudden.
I was willing to pay the high prices, just to stay local, but not if I'm going to have to sit in a lighted room on top of it all. Going to have to start making the drive...
