Very uncomfortable. I rarely leave a negative review of a business, but this has bothered me for months and see other reviewers have similar experiences.
There are lots of nice items here and there are crafters and artisans who have lovely things. This is not a reflection on them.
Back in November, I had stopped in with my mother to shop, and several of the employees were very friendly, however I noticed that one was hovering over us frequently. We found a nice decorative cart that had a great price. We looked it over and then continued to shop while me made our decision.
When we were ready to purchase, my elderly mother went to the car and I made the purchase. The same employee that was hovering was at the checkout and seemed reluctant to sell the cart to me insinuating that the tag must have been changed because the price was so good. She even sent another employee to search for another cart for confirmation. However, that was the only cart. The item had a tag that clearly stated "small cart" with the price and a barcode. The cashier kept looking perplexed and saying it wasn't scanning correctly; which was odd since, as I mentioned, the tag stated that it was a "small cart." Eventually, she sold the item to me and I headed to my car. I was the only car in the lot nearest the entry door. As I was pulling out, I noticed that same cashier at the window hiding behind a curtain recording me and taking photos of me in my car. I parked and went back in. I asked her if all was okay and she stated that she was taking pictures of another car. What other car and why? We were the only car in the side lot and the building has plenty of cameras...so why record me? I haven't felt that uncomfortable or unwelcome in a shop in years and I was surprised as I have worked in Medford for more than a decade and never felt that unwelcome.
Unfortunately, I will never return to shop there. Customers should not be made to feel like criminals when shopping in their local businesses. The other employees were lovely, but the one employee's behavior was enough to keep me from returning. Very...
Read moreVery cute store with lots of nice stuff. HOWEVER — and this is a big however — I have never felt more uncomfortable in my life. From the moment my sister and I walked into the store I felt extremely hovered over and watched. The woman working followed us around whispering under her breath “unbelievable.. these two people” while watching security camera footage on an iPad. Extremely strange behavior. It hurt to give this place business but it got to the point where I felt the need to checkout and purchase something merely to prove a point that I was an innocent shopper and not stealing as it felt like that’s what I was being accused of. Plus, I wanted to see how that went. Sure enough, the checkout experience itself was also uncomfortable. (Me: “Is this where I checkout?” Her: condescendingly with a huff “Sure”). I left feeling very uncomfortable. I hope the items I bought will support the vendors and not the store itself. It was validating to see other reviews with similar experiences. My experience and the experiences of tons of others on Google, Yelp, and Facebook are NOT a coincidence. Perhaps the shop owner needs to find another line of work if they are this paranoid or needs to seek professional help - a genuine suggestion. I will not be back.
If you are looking to support other small businesses that do not villainize their customers for no apparent reason, there are plenty of others on Main Street. I highly suggest Antiques At 9 South Main or Mystical Blossoms - lovely shops with...
Read moreCame in here looking for a cool little antique shop. Loved it at first. I bought a tee shirt and a winter hat for myself while my girlfriend browsed. THEN, the owners had the audacity to call the police on us and accuse us of shop lifting without even approaching us beforehand. As we were going to leave and completely out of nowhere, we were approached by an officer, who was extremely nice, and were told we were accused of shoplifting. We cooperated accordingly and showed them our bags and opened our jackets. The owners claimed to “see me on camera” but there was no actual evidence of the accusation taking place. The owners THEN, had the disgusting nerve, to ask us not to come back (through the police) though we didn’t plan on ever returning after this fiasco. I’ve never been banned from a place for being innocent of a shoplifting accusation. The police offers were very respectful and were just doing their job, so no hard feelings towards them. However, the owners 100% lost 2 customers this day. It’s a real shame for the venders inside because I enjoyed the products they had to offer. I almost returned the items I bought out of spite, but it would end up hurting the vendor more in the end. Don’t ever plan on browsing freely at this place. You’ll be assumed to be...
