I hate to disappoint you guys, but ever since I last came into this shop, Animax hasn't been the same. Right before the owner of the place decided to change location, the store used to be a place for anyone who is either new to anime or is a long time fan of anime to come and check out whatever cool merchandise was in stock, whether it be adorable anime plushies, clocks, forbidden figurines, underrated used mangas, etc. Not only was the merchandise based on popular animes, it was also based on animes that people rarely watched or discussed. Though small and located in a bad part of town, going through the store was like going through an abandoned treasure trove and picking out whatever strikes your interest. In other words, it was THAT awesome of a store. However, ever since the place moved and that the anime industry has become too popular and overpowering, that old feeling of going through the crowded aisles and enjoying the sight of different anime genres melting together into one big pot of wonder as your eyes search for that one speck that stood out from all the rest was lost and replaced by empty aisles of cookie cutter Japanese and Western culture mainstream trinkets and junk food crowding the loose leak shelves. Even the owner(or previous owner) of the store felt a bit bogged down by all of the hype of animania last time I saw him. This is not to say that the store isn't worth checking out. Admitingly, I still find some cool stuff to buy every now and then. I only bought one thing from here because I didnât bring much money but they had so many mha and ds figures that caught my eye but I chose this one because of it being a sitting figure. I will be coming back to this place soon and I canât wait to buy more figures from these people but my only problem with the store was that it was really hot inside and the prices were a little more expensive than the ones youâd get online but I understand it because of all the shopping and plus they gotta make money. In general this store is a great place to go get some great figures for yourself and they also had a cool sword room full of replicated...
Read moreThe place is absolutely small. It's really cramped & everything aside from the 3 for $5 prints is insanely overpriced. Some of the same figures, models etc I've seen at other stores both online & in store for WAY cheaper. That was my only issue. Other than that it's a nice fix for some anime stuff till I find a better anime store near Memphis. I wish they had a bigger store with more to offer for those of us to hang out meet/do little events. Could really build a cool community with more space, better pricing & more to offer if some things...
