Shelley's Hallmark Shop — Local services in Menomonee Falls

Dear Shelley,

I am writing this in hopes it will make it to you in regards to a recent experience I had at your shop. I’ve left a message with your staff but don’t have high hopes that it will make it to you. Today I popped in quickly to purchase a birthday card for my husband, Hallmark cards are his absolute favorite. Upon entering the store, per your and state requirements I wore my mask as usual. During my shopping experience I proceeded to the back of the store on the hunt for the above mentioned husbands birthday card. During my search I had a quite sudden dizzy/nauseous spell hit me due to a medical condition, these spells can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Trying to regain my composure I looked around to ensure no one was within 6 ft of me (in fact I didn’t see anyone within 15 feet of me) and removed my mask to take a few additional breaths with every intention of putting it back on. Within a minute an employee was by my side informing me that Shelley requires masks be worn within the store. Which I politely replied to with a thank you before the associate hurried off. Because I was still feeling quite dizzy I resumed reading the card I was holding, attempting to make a quick sectional so I could exit the store as soon as possible. Within a minute another associate was upon me again telling me I had to put my mask on, which I politely replied to her that I was having a medical issue and needed a few moments, to which she again told me to put on my mask because Shelley requires them. I politely tried to ask her that even though I was having a medial issue, which by law I am not required to tell her about or wear a mask because of, if I could be excused from the mask requirement for a few minutes while I was alone in the isle trying to make my selection. She again said masks are required, that I could wait outside or do curbside pick up and hurried away. Feeling quite upset at this point I decided to put the card back and leave the store. Not 30 seconds after putting the card back in the rack and turning to leave the store was a THIRD associate upon me telling me to put my mask on because Shelley requires them, I told her thank you and that I was leaving and that I felt they were all being quite rude, to which she replied, well you can talk to Shelley. This entire interaction lasted no longer than 5 minutes, it felt like a title wave of associates poring down on me when all I needed was a few minutes to myself to catch my breath. Because of this interaction I drove across town to the Fredricks Hallmark in Pewaukee to pick up the intended birthday card that would have taken only a few minutes to select. I understand during this pandemic masks are important and should be worn, and as mentioned had intended to do so, but I just wish for those of us out there who try to follow the rules but who’s health sometimes interferes, your associates would show a little understanding and compassion, especially during times like these.

I used like this store and what turned me off is the attitude of the owner and workers. 2020 is the 2nd time that I have put ornaments on layaway and have been met with rude service in person and over the phone. I am not going to abandon the ornaments and the purchase amount have always been over $400+. I think it is ridiculous that I have been threatened with the ornaments being put back. I didn’t know and I forgot that I was suppose to pick it up on Dec. 1st, people are human to forget but to have this kind of service is unacceptable. I would suggest to service and buy your ornaments elsewhere. This store is not it.

Past Review: I like the place. It is very organized and clean. I like to buy my ornaments from there and they are offer layaway. I don’t get why people say it’s expensive; it’s Hallmark and all stores are pricey if you don’t like it shop somewhere but don’t complain about the prices when you know it will...

Expensive, chocolate and candy is so overpriced, store owners don't have to be so greedy. I walked in, looked at the chocolate selections, then I saw the prices and I walked right out. That store is in the right city with all the rich, snobby too good folks that think they are better then everyone else because the drive fancy cars and live in a fancy house.
