As a small business owner who has operated successfully in the same retail location for several years, I am extremely disappointed by my recent experience with CBL Properties. Despite being a consistent tenant and maintaining a professional relationship throughout my lease term, I was met with unprofessional behavior and ultimately denied a lease renewal without just cause or proper communication.
I attempted to address these concerns through the proper channels, including reaching out to CBL leadership, the mall director, and submitting a formal demand letter. I also reported discriminatory conduct — including inappropriate language and dismissive treatment — by a representative Ryan Hensley during the leasing process. To date, my concerns have not been acknowledged or addressed with transparency or fairness.
My experience reflects a larger issue in how small, minority-owned businesses are treated within corporate leasing structures. I expected to be treated with the same respect and professionalism that I extended throughout my time at the property. Instead, I was left with no option but to vacate the premises and seek advocacy from outside organizations.
I sincerely hope CBL Properties reevaluates how they treat long-standing tenants — particularly women and business owners of color — and takes meaningful steps toward equity, professionalism, and...
Read morePeople here are expecting too much of malls nowadays. The mall bubble has burst, but Meridian Mall still manages to stand up in comparison to many of the completely dead malls located nearby. There are plenty of unique places to shop at, but it still has its fair share of problems.
The mall could use a lot of improvement in encouraging more stores open there and making sure the stores are actually open during reasonable hours. I went on a Friday and saw some of the stores closing up for the night at around 6pm while there were still plenty of people around. Most spots are filled, but there are sections of the mall that are actually completely abandoned.
Luckily there are some unique business there to attract people, although I haven't personally gone to the bigger ones like the Go-Kart / Bowling Alley / Axe Throwing place, the trampoline place, nerd culture stores that even host tournaments, and more.
There are also a few places with concepts that I can't imagine lasting long, like a whole location dedicated to getting in giant plastic balls and bumping around, or the selfie museum.
There is also the stuff around the mall as well, like a movie theater and a...
Read moreI was shopping this weekend and I was shocked and disappointed to see that there is a vendor called Pocket Pets selling exotic sugar gliders. The ones they have on display for people to touch were terrified, shaking and miserable. There were three children petting them at once and one of them started screeching and yelping. The handler responded by yelling "HEY HEY HEY" at them and told the kids to continue. Encouraging children to pet scared and defensive creatures is dangerous for the kids and the animals involved!
The company is also giving out a lot of false information about these animals to prospective buyers, saying that they require no vet care, calling them "maintenance-free" and saying that your cats and dogs won't attack them because they aren't a rodent and thus don't "smell like food." Nothing they were doing or saying is good for the sugar gliders or people who might buy them.
I tried to talk to a manager in person, but was told none were available and there was also no service desk to report this. Meridian Mall- please stop allowing the sale of live animals...
