I've come to the store three times. Each time I walk in, I go unacknowledged by staff, who are typically chatting with a friend or what appears another co-worker. After a while of standing in line patiently, I may be asked if I needed help. Selection isn't very large, but the store itself is kind of charming.
These were minor things to me, as I was looking for a new game shop to dedicate myself to. But what really made me mad, was I was told that Adventure League for D&D is every Tuesday (which was the next day). The staff even stated he hoped I'd show tomorrow and to be early to create a character. Hesitant, I decided to check it out.
I got off a bit early from work and head in to Athoria. Once again, I was not acknowledged by staff (remember I'm a new customer/player who has no idea where to go). At that point I literally waited in line at the counter, while the staff packed away cards and talked about MTG to a man who was not paying, and not even in line. After a couple minutes, I had to politely interrupt to inquire what I'd need for Adventure's League today.
The staff had no idea. He yelled over at someone else, who informed me I had wasted my time. Adventure League isn't today. Sadly I'm done with Athoria Games. Reading online I found other shops with active schedules the staff seem to know and keep. It's just a bummer how excited I was to give this...
Read moreTotally honest review. The store has some pretty cool stuff at times, but a lot of the time it seems like they don't have much product or singles in stock. Sometimes the display cases in the front are borderline empty. But when they are stocked with options to choose from they generally have some unique stuff that you can choose from. My biggest problem with the store though is the pricing they have on their products. I get it, it's a business and you guys are trying to make money. But the price mark ups you guys have on stuff is jaw dropping at times. A 25 pack of toploaders costs 10.00 here. That's a 4.00-5.00 product anywhere else. ETB's, UPC's, Booster Packs and singles are also way above fair market value. It's not very fair either when you guys are paying roughly 40% for singles brought into the store by other customers. That's an insane profit margin. If you're looking to just stop in and burn some cash to have fun here, highly recommend because you might find something cool. But if you're wanting to pay a fair price on products, shop elsewhere. You're better off waiting...
Read moreCame by to check out some of the 40k stuff at the store a bit ago, but was disheartened about the apparent bragging about getting cheap models online that were 3D printed. I think the main person was an employee, tall guy with a beard and glasses, hanging around the tabletop games. I find it unfortunate that a store would have an employee stating that, when whoever owns the store sells the same models. That already made me not feel good, on top of it the 40k players I saw there made me feel uncomfortable as all the lists I saw were hyper competitive and were not the sort I would recommend to anyone to play at your local game store as it was more like what you saw at an GT event or something of the like, not a casual place to play pick up games. Overall the atmosphere was okey, bathrooms needed work and the selection of product wasn’t bad. Just don’t agree with what I saw player base wise, and the employee openly talking about the...
