What follows is a Christmas miracle, and will warm your heart: My 52 yr old autistic brother Tom has had a fascination with Kirby vacuums ever since he was a kid and saw the one my aunt had back in the 70s. Some autistic people are either extremely sensitive to - or conversely, very interested in - certain stimulation: noise, touch, visuals, or smells, for example. In the case of my brother and this (very loud!) Kirby vacuum, he is totally obsessed with the sound it makes, the visual of the red checkered bag inflating, and the look of the machine in general. Interestingly, he doesn't even actually clean the floor with it; rather, he turns it on and off, sometimes removes and replaces the attachments, and carefully stores it away when he's done. Over the years, my father and I have purchased a few different used Kirby Classic IIIs, many in various states of (dis)repair. My brother has only been satisfied if it is the one with the red checkered bag. As they are essentially a 50+ year old antique, they're hard to find! When one of them has needed a replacement part or simply stops working, Wayne and the folks at North Shore Vacuum & Appliance in Middleton have always done their best to repair them. Their rates are very fair, and their service is impeccable. Recently, a client dropped off an old Kirby Classic III that wasn't working to their shop. Wayne, remembering my brother's fascination with Kirby's, took the time to call my father and let him know that he could fix it, and sell it to us for a song. Today (12/16/22), my father and I stopped by the shop and had to fight back tears as Wayne brought out the vacuum and told us that he'd like to give it to us for free, as a Christmas gift! Wayne had done a lot of painstaking repairs to bring it back to life, and it runs like a top! My father was recently hospitalized with an emergency heart condition that nearly killed him (he's thankfully on the mend now), so with that and the holidays approaching, it's been an emotional time for our family. Being on the receiving end of such thoughtful generosity from Wayne and his business was truly heartwarming, and we are so, so grateful. We can't wait to see the look on Tom's face when he gets this amazing gift - after Xmas, we'll be sure to send Wayne a picture of my brother posing with this Kirby! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Wayne, and North Shore Vacuum & Appliance for shining a warm light into this world, especially when there's so much division and animosity out there - you are a saint, and a master of your craft!! With endless gratitude, Bill...
Read moreMy parents purchased a $300 vacuum in Feb by the owner Wayne, who claimed that if there's any damages to it he will replace it with a new one if he can't fix it within a year-- The vacuum broke towards the end of June, which we called to get assistance for but they were closed for the 4th for 1week and we never received a call back after leaving a voice message. Finally went in there this week, after an hour drive, we left it with the girl at the front desk and then he called claiming it's our fault that we broke the machine because he claim that we have misused it cause it's clogged. Which makes no sense what so ever. First off, who would want to misuse a vacuum when they purchased it for $300? Misusing it is to smash it around and break parts on purpose. Now he is going back on his word and trying to charge them $150 to replace it. Then he goes back on his words again and said he never told them it was for commercial cleaning, which my mother doesn't lie and stated that he raved about the vacuum and it's a great vacuum for businesses. He claimed that they went in looking for it and never try selling them anything. Go to amazon, don't buy here, they don't keep their words at all, they just want to sell you their products and charge you some more to fix parts. He won't even refund our money or try to help, he took our money and left us hanging and blamed us which is a ridiculous way to leave your customers hanging. Customer service is poor over the phone especially when you're getting loud and defensive over the phone and start blaming your customers for misusing it. I don't even know if these other post are from his friends or family, seems pretty fake. $300 down the drain and no help from...
Read moreThe gentleman that came to service my house showed up at 6pm with no tools and stayed for 15 minutes. I was informed that his company service van was in the shop and he had to take his own personal vehicle. I find that very unprofessional if you cannot meet the required needs of a customer then you reschedule. He then informed me that my filter was corroded and he would need to remove the whole unit from the wall. He had to leave after 15 minutes because he did not have the proper tools needed to remove it from the wall. The next day he showed up to my house to take the unit upon arriving he was verbally aggressive toward my uncle and then demanded his 129 for the house call and if he did not receive it he would take me to court. The gentleman also called me and was verbally aggressive on the phone along with threatening me with court. I got a second opinion from a different vacuum company and they let me know that everything the gentleman said was a lie and he was trying to sell me a brand new unit. They were able to fix it in Jess than 20minuets. This company is terrible do not let them into your home they are...
